I've come accross a few old cologne recipes for " 4 thieves " colognes...in fact I'm pretty sure there is one in the files somewhere... $30 for 15 mls doesn't strike me as excessively expensive for any blend to be quite honest. Exactly as in photography or graphics, or 1000 other arts, when rank amateurs start selling their services and products for way cheap, the entire profession suffers (speaking from experience). Those blends for cheap should properly be called " aromatherapy blends. " Not that there's anything wrong there, but they are not true, ornate, complex, artistic, professional compositions, they are not truly perfume the way most think of perfume. Guest guest
>> $30 for 15 mls doesn't strike me as excessively expensive for any >> blend >> to be quite honest. >> Hi Ambrosia: No, that's fine for a blend that they just copied from a history book without having to spend months formulating. Also, the ingredients are quite inexpensive for the Thieves blend. I hope folks here realize it's not a perfume - it's meant to be worn on a cloth or mask over your nose and mouth when you are walking through the streets of a plague-ravaged city to protect you from the microbes. Guest guest
I have two 16 ounce bottles of what goes into thieves blend and from a very good source, I didn't spend thirty on those. I might have if I bought 3 bottles and one oil that goes into thieves is extremely economical.....and it is eo, all off them. When I blend mine, 15 mils won't be even approached....I care enough about my home, my family''s health, the average consumer and I can sell in larger quantity for less making rebalancing my 'tiny place in the earth' better and non toxic. I have better than 25 years of herbs under my belt, 10 in pharmacy and I know markups. To see 30.00 for such a little amount inmho is all to do with 'money' . There are those out there who have been 'brainwashed' to think if its cheaper its not as good.....that is not true. This is why there are pre-buy and co-ops. You can buy in large amounts sometimes for less than what a 15-30 mil product that is sold for. I would be interested in seeing some of these companies books, I would LOVE to see what they buy their eo's for. example......lets use phamacy .....generic lasix is 2.00 for 1000 count bottle. Most buy 30 for a month.....at a minimum of their insurance co-pay, in my case, 15.00. I have just paid for that bottle and then some.......and look how many more scripts they have to fill. So I am buying in large one bottle a time until I have enough to blend and I will not sell for 30.00. I can make a profit with a lower price and repeat sales is what will keep this blend a constant allowing me to buy in larger and larger amounts . I manage money pretty well. (as long as I " m the one managing it) . I can grow it when its only my fingers in that pie ......so when I have several lbs of each oil that goes into theives blend.......I will still be making a profit, the reason I want to do it is keep my side of the street clean and I have an immense conscience. I have found that many people pay for the 'brand' or 'name'........that does not mean its better. Its also proven that affordable facial creams are as good a 300.00 facial creams........I do my own, to me its worth a million and I know what its in it because I hand picked each ingredient. If you sell a brand , thats fine, I've done that . Having been on both sides of the counter in the health fields, both herbal and pharmaceutical.....I know that cost does not = affordability. I did MLM. I also saw my mom who didn't have money buy things she could not afford because she is one of those people you can 'peg' for a sale . I can't do that. It is my hopes to help in make available things to those who are not the elite or who won't spend their last dime for a natural product. If we are to make a change in this planet....then we need to rethink what we make and how much we sell it for. Perfumes? OY........now THAT i can see, the most I've ever spent I wont say but suffice it to be a teaspoon of jasmine LOL! dang sandalwood over harvesters......if its 1000.00 for a lb.......I'm pretty sure I wont be buying a teaspoon of mysore LOL! evie
Guest guest
adam, this is sold not as a perfume but rather as keeping ones environment in diffusing cleaner and in place of several things....its not meant to be worn. you can add it to home made cleansers for the house or a homemade lysol etc.....its antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic and antifungal......people are trying to formulate this into hand sanitizers , diffusing it in diffusers to keep the air in the home safer so one really has to know how much is 'enough' because as we breathe in, thats going IN as well. I like the idea of a timed diffuser if you are gone it will spray a few times and then cut it off when you get home. It is in no way for perfumery. I have diffused a few drops in a tea lite and it calmed a cough but only a mil with water.......much like when you put that stuff in a vaporizer to open your kids nose.... perfumery doesn't factor in here. I know how much that costs......thieves blend in no way has a thing to do with perfumery.........I can see a little being used in hand soaps. I do know an old man who makes a clove, cinnamon and rosemary soap and that man has have had a sick day in 80 years...... but thieves is not in the perfume line. Cloves, Cinnamon, Lemon eo, Rosemary eo or eucaplyptus, there are several eo's you can swap with the same properties.....is for alteranative uses than lysol sprays etc..........with skin staph on the rise, airborn flu virus' , athletes feet.......this is simply a formula to switch the chemicals that are sold. perfumery and natural oils for the above mentioned don't really have anything to do with each other. perfumery I can see the high cost , but that makes a good thieves blend is not that expensive to make......its just sold at an enourmous price. I have organic oils from a very reputable supplier. The oils in thieves dont cost what the oils in perfumery cost. There is an abundance of that which is sold as thieves blend to be purchased at very reasonable rates. I've made oil blends since my kids were little......my eldest is 27. I've done a jasmine blend for my daughter (gulp) with eo's so I know the cost. But these two blends have nothing in common. One is simply for protection. I see we have a first year pharmacy student. I'm glad to see her here. She'll have some info that will benefit and I just might have to pm her about a formula I'm doing LOL! hugs, evie
Guest guest
Thats where I first saw that Joy.....and you know, I am just bound and determined to make a line of products that will help the planet and my fellow man. People like my mom are easy targets. She'll spend her grocery money on what is sold as ' having magical and natural properties'.......and it breaks my heart, I have a friend who will only use a certain companies product that has been proven to be unequal to a lesser priced item... I guess its part of my character defect.....I can't save the world, I can make things that are better for people. I can make that blend and use organic uncut eo's. But I want to make a difference and everyone should have access to such things but I would sell it premixed. We live in a society that thinks 'if one mil is good then I'll use 10'......thus the need to protect us from our selves. I could not afford that not so long ago. I began to make soap and then got into some nice groups, natural groups that buy in , the more people who buy in , the less amount of cost for each of us......I chose to do that for the thieves blend. If only a small potion can buy this, especially now with the economical disaster.....then its a moot point. Perfumes are a luxury and an art.....that I can see the cost easily. But the eo's that go into thieves are not that expensive. In fact there is an abundance of them. Granted, a lot of research should be done to balance this blend . But given the state of our planet, our bodies and the overuse of chemicals like triclosan and others......then I choose to make this afordable to all. My cost will be the bottles....I'd love to sell the diffusers. Diffused, one would think the blend wouldnt smell nice but it does. I love it. I'll not argue the point further. I've sort of dominated the perfumery board and this has nothing to do with perfumery so i do apologize. Sorry group. wont happen again. And Joy, I meant no disrespect to you whatseover...none at all.
