Guest guest
To me it is Sacred Alchemy. Pure and simple. Scent like tone is a form of communication and artistry. Its both primal and elemental, past, present and future, is passed down from generation to generation regardless if we are conscious of that or not, defines a culture or group . As an artform, it in some form or another connects us to each other or repels, and is expressive . I can connect scent to music, color, ethnicities, mood, genres, era's . It is both abstract and linear and I know that with my grand daughter it will be her future NOW and yet will be a fond memory later....there are no words I think. It is also spiritual. When I smell frankincense I hear gregorian chants and when I smell sage, cedar or sweet grass I hear the drums reminiscent of the earth's heart beat. I can't define it. I can tell you reasons, events, people, places and things and will fall very, very short in my attempts to communicate that to anyone. But scent is a form of communication, even in nature. I should stop before prose begins to form and flow.... evie
Guest guest
Next to my passion for essential oils and everything natural, I enjoy educating people about all of the crap found in mass produced perfumes. I have found that many individuals are totally clueless on this issue. A. Guest guest
Hi Folks..... It's my love for the natural essences... In another life, it was focusing on their compatibility and their ability to heal...the psyche, as well as the physical.... They also smell good, in many cases...and perfumery is more a psyche active realm... Maybe it's because of my earlier focus on AT, that I come on so strongly against FO junk (that is the politest term I have, at least on an open List).... We're working with Ma Gaia in both cases AT and NP...not the friendly neighborhood synth lab... It's a Way.... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
I think 'its a way' is about as perfect as it can be described . Thats one of those 'aha' moments. Thanks. That has a state of 'consciousness' of its own . I've found such simple terms to run very deep. I know when I'm with traditional peoples in the area where I live, to say one 'walks a good road' or 'with a good heart' or simply 'it is good' has a meaning you just 'know'. With that knowing comes an ancient understanding and one can only use the most simple terms to be able to understand it. Often when an elder shares they will say 'it is our way' and when it is spoken like that , the one listening understands that what needed to be said or explained had just been done. For all of the words in books, sometimes there is not ONE even linked to another that defines 'it'. One might as well define what 'God' is.....we can't in human words. We can't in books . It is 'soul speak' which has a language and meaning of its own & no attempt at description can make sense of it. In fact it will confuse the clarity. There is sound to the earth and we've all heard about the music of the spheres. We can brew a cup of coffee and indulge in our understanding verbalizing from sunset to sunrise and still not find adequate terminolgy because this is a language that is not spoken. It is understood best by one of our five senses linked to a sixth , more so in that sixth sense we tend to dismiss . Which looped me back to thinking of our '5' senses and how it would change many things if we awakened them all with some sort of consciousness unlocked. We'd enjoy such a discussion, perhaps indulge is best suited for this subject. But we would walk away without having a definitive explaination LOL! It would be fun tho. I was just made 'aware' of a gift I recently received and inherently knew that it was special, first because of a phrase 'you should be sitting down for this'.....I didn't 'know'.....and I asked and no answer came back so finally I looked up the word and found its other name and at this moment, I am quite stunned. Because now I 'know'. I have something on my fingers I keep raising to my nose and I don't want to wash my hands...and now I am thinking 'should I make something or should I simply enjoy it from time to time as it is and keep it in a secure place?'. I think its obvious that I do so love these things our earth renders now and again. You all know I do soap and I do have to use fo's and I try to use the safest and the blends that have eo's in them. I have to make a living and in the early stages of business one compromises so I do that in the best way possible. I'm never going to have access to that rare sought after oil I hear about and it's sad to think that the sandalwood prayer beads gifted to my daughter by Tibetan Monks are probably few of this species , at least in quality , there are inferior sandalwoods and I can use them effectively enough but her beads had such a scent.....and I remember many years ago how much I loved sandalwood and thought perhaps I'd just grown older because it didn't smell the same.....but that wasn't it. I didn't know that mysore was so drastically over harvested among other things . So for the things that I have that are real, I will use for someone who has an understanding of what they have. For the rest I must make things they can afford and I can do that and not cause toxicity to the planet or my friends and random customer. Sometimes I'm horrified someone wants to smell like a pie but in the end, I choose the base and I know it is good and they are happy and thats where the real profit for me in the compromise, someone was made happy and they have a healthier product. I had to give up my idea of only natural . Few people really want that. Few can afford it as well so if I want to see change I have to be the change and in my home you will find herbs and tinctures and medicines and scents I made and some I purchased , but you will find scents others want and if I can't cater to all and only to an elite few, then I haven't done much , the point is moot and the pollution continues.. so I make soaps that don't contaminate and there are enough bases and eo's that are affordable I know how to blend and offer them something pretty, indulgent and good. I'm caught between two loves LOL....and it is such a joy for me to see people with such passion. Well, I have a blend I'm waiting on to see how it will end so off for a bit.. Anya, I owe you an email. More than that but certainly words as special as I can make them. Aho. evie
Guest guest
> We've talked about initial inspirations. What continues to keep you > involved in natural perfumery? > It's the thrill of the chase; discovering new essences is like finding a new plant that will yield up it's scent (what a gift). It's the challenge of creating a world where none existed before (perfumes). It's getting to know your oils as if they are living individuals (and I believe they are!), quirks and all. It's anticipation, disappointment, surprises. Finally, essences bring us closer to the natural world. Plant essences capture an aspect of the plant soul and that fragment can give us so much pleasure. Maggie
Guest guest
> It's getting to know your oils as if they are living individuals > (and I > believe they are!) I've thought before, " It's like they have a life of their own. " Thinking of them as individuals is a step I hadn't yet taken but, thanks to you, now I will approach them that way. Sort of like Casteñada (isn't everything? :-)
Guest guest
> > We've talked about initial inspirations. What continues to keep you > involved in natural perfumery? > My dreams, goals, aspirations. Knowing that I have so much to learn. Knowing that there are SO many combinations to try. So many fun smells to make. The hope that I'll make some really fantastic perfumes if I apply myself diligently. The lure and addiction of some of the more intriguing ingredients. The sensuality of it all. Cheers! Andrine
