Re: how do I use saffron?

Hi Evie,

I have a saffron attar which can be purchased at White Lotus Aromatics (no plug;

just the only place I know where to get it, and it's very, very fine quality).

I have made soap using a glycerine soapbase which I scent with the saffron

attar.  The result is a subtle saffron note floating in a sweet woodsy cloud of

sandalwood.  It also imparts a pretty golden color to the clear soap, and

because not too much of the attar is used, the color does not actually stain

anything at all.

It needs to sit for about a month for it to smell good.  The smell is quite

strange when it is first mixed with the soap base - the combination of the

slight smell of the soap base mixes with the glory of the saffron attar, and it

might make you think you ought not to have made it.  This is what happened the

first time I used it, and, disappointed, I set it aside on a shelf and forgot it

for a month.  Housemate happend one day to use a bar of the soap, and just as I

was about to tell her that it was unuseable and would smell awful, she kvelled

happily at the fragrance, and when I smelled the soap again it was gorgeous.

Hope this helps!

I discovered I had some and have seen it referenced in scents and soaps. I dont

know how to use it or the properties it contains and I know that one should not

consume a lot of it, just a hint in rice or so.......seems a waste if I can't

blend it with something.

All is forgiven if you send me a sliver of that saffron soap ;-)
