Guest guest
Hi Margi, Thank you for the info. I will contact Ahimsa and also the Perfect Potion (I can't seem to get on their site at the moment). Looks like my Vodka is safe from my experiments.. Slurpees sound much better!! I have been purchasing my EO's from the Sydney Essential Oil Company they say if you're sourcing something they will try to get it. I might give them a go. Can someone tell me about amber. It's a preserved resin - how is it made for use in perfume? Or is it something totally different?
Guest guest
Ahisma is vastly overpriced...they resell oils from FPI (Which admittedly has a very high minimum order amount)and I have my doubts about some of their so called essential oils being natural. (amber being one of them) You can get perfumers alcohol from New Directions. The Sydney Essential oil comapny are pretty good...so is Auroma. Natural amber is the fossilized tree resin. and does not smell " ambery " at all. The only natural " ambers " are blends of different resins and essential oils. Guest guest
I've re-posted this in the Aussie ethanol topic, coz it's an interesting issue. > There's a few of us here in Australia who got alcohol by applying > for a permit from the Australian Taxation Office, once approved we > got our supplies from ACE Chemical Company in South Australia. > > Best wishes, Cherie (McLaren Vale, SA) Hi Cherie thanks for that - I've checked their www and list of products. This scares me... they also do pain stripper, window cleaner, vermiculite and vitamins, urea [ 'pure' and 'tech' ], food colourings galore, toluene [now I'm pretty sure that's just plain nasty],tung oil [i paint that on my outdoor furniture], lead in many forms, liver of sulphur [say what??], and on it goes. I'm not wanting to be offensive, derisory, or judgmental of the choices any of us in this group make about our materials and our craft... my comment here is about the availability of suitable, 'perfume grade' alcohol in Australia... where it comes from, what other products the maker is producing, how it's been denatured etc etc The more readily available alcohols in this country are neither 'clean and green', nor befitting of a natural, artisan-crafted product. Maybe I'll set up a still in my back yard, and make friends with a grape-grower with a few spare crates of grapes each season Or simply focus on becoming very, very good at making perfumes in plant oils and waxes.... and drink the stuff out of the still. And on the grape idea ... Cherie, do you reckon in McLaren Vale there'd be a wine-maker or two who'd be into the idea of producing high grade, high-proof grape alcohol for Aussie NP-ers who want something wonderful and kind of boutique-y for their perfumes? Just a thought. Margi
Guest guest
Margi its already possible to buy organic grape alcohol here in AU but once again they will not supply unless one has a permit from the ATO. Regards,

Hi Folks.... Use Everclear all the time..... However 151 Proof is only going to give you 75% alcohol.... Everclear also does come in 190 Proof....which is 95%..... Essentially, a Proof number is a half of a percent... So....100 Proof is 50%, etc... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone tried 151 proof bacardi rum. Can it be used? At least it can be bought without a permit.
Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone tried 151 proof bacardi rum. Can it be used? At least it can be bought without a permit. ***************************************************** Hi I haven't tried that but theoretically it could be done. Your limitations would be (1) you wouldn't be able to use some materials that don't dissolve in something that low in alcohol - resins, concretes etc. And (2) you'd have to work around the aroma that the rum already has. Maybe you could develope a foody gourmand type of fragrance. That could be yummy. Let us know how it goes. Patty
