Second, I forgot my very favorite " air " essence of all: eucalyptus " blue mallee " . Third, if any of you find my brain lying around, please pick it up, dust it off and let me know, won't you? That's pretty amazing though....I've got lists like this in various books all over the place and I disagree with most of them.... the very first perfumes I made were actually based on the elements... Though they didn't really work well as perfumes...too unbalanced in themselves.....(plus the fire blend tended to be a bit irritiating to the skin, grin!) We should swap perfume samples and see if we blend the same way too! Ambrosia http://www.perfumebynature.com.au

Yes, to me galbanum has a green, leafy quality, so it reminds me of either the woods, very earthy to me, or leafy tree tops blowing in the wind, or the smell of grassy hilltops, or the smell of fresh cut grass wafting in the summer breeze, very air to my mind. I can totally see how you would think cedar is earthy, I do too, I put it under earth as well as spirit, I guess I also put it in spirit because it has been used in temples as incense and for meditation, and spiritual cleansing for thousands of years, wherever it grows. So its usage, rather than just its aroma, colored my decision to put it in Spirit. And also, Spirit is in all things.............
Guest guest
> > Shea asks: > > What elements, i.e. fire, water, earth, air, spirit, would you assign > certain essences to? What essences > feel " watery " , " fiery " , " earthy " , " spiritual " to you? > Wow. This was a hard one. Partly because there are so many oils to sniff while thinking of this question, and also because it's a new way for me to think about scents. There are so many more, but I could ponder this question for a really long time. And I wanted to answer it before I saw what others wrote so that it didn't color my thoughts. Hmmm.... I'm a fire sign, so I'll start with that... Fire: Pepper (all), ginger, galangal, costus, cade, choya loban, benzoin, cinnamon, sandalwood, juniper wood, styrax, Earth: Amber, oakmoss, cedar moss, patchouli, nutmeg, seaweed, cepes, tuberose, saffron, ylang ylang, cedar wood, vanilla, carrot, blackberry, osmanthus, cardamom, rosemary Air: Rose, cedar leaf, fir needle, palmarosa, lemongrass, citrus (all), lavender Water: Calamus, mint, opopanax, seashell Spiritual... Interesting... : incense, copal, spikenard Okay -- off to see what everyone else wrote... Still pondering... Andrine
