How to turn from negative to positive thinking.

by Remez Sasson

It is quite easy and common to think negatively. Negativityseems to be everywhere. It is in the news on TV and the radio,in the newspapers and in the conversation between people. Itis no wonder that negative thoughts find an easy access intothe mind. This predominant negative trend has to be stopped,so that happiness and positive events start happening. You may not able to control the media, or other peoplethoughts, but you certainly can have control over yourthoughts. Negative thoughts lead to lack of ambition, feeling of incompetence, weakness and frustration. Theyalso lead to unhappiness, dissatisfaction, and self-pity.All this leads to failure. What are positive thoughts? These are thoughts about success, ability and strength. It is when you approach life with theattitude "I can", "I am able" and "I am going to succeed".It means having faith in yourself and the belief that youcan succeed. It is living your life with the belief that youcan find a solution to everything and every situation.Positive people feel and expect happiness. You have the power to guard your mind from negative thoughts. You should be aware of the thoughts that enter your mind.Refuse negative thoughts. If they come, reject them. It mightnot be easy. The mind has always been accustomed to thinkingin a negative way. There has not been any gate or a gatekeeperto keep these thoughts away. The mind is constantly presentedwith negative thoughts from the surrounding world. Yet, withperseverance it is possible to conquer these thoughts andreplace them with positive ones.

Here are a few ideas to help you along the way.1) Reduce the number of times that you listen to the news onTV or the radio.2) Devote less time to reading the newspaper, especially aboutdisasters. It is not meant that you block yourself fromknowing what is happening in the world. Be informed with thenews, but don't make it an occupation. You are living in thisworld, so you need to know what is happening, but there isno need to delve too much into negative news. Read to beinformed, but don't let negative thoughts arise in your mind.3) Don't discuss or talk about difficulties, disasters, threatsor illnesses.4) When watching TV or going to the movies, prefer comediesthat make you laugh.5) Be aware of the words you use in your conversation, and tryto use only positive one. Endeavor to use words such as,"I can" and "It can be done". Don't talk about how bad youfeel, or how bad is business or whatever.6) Associate with positive people. When in the company ofnegative people, be careful not to be infected with theirway of thinking. Keep up positivism.7) Smile more, and be more tolerant and friendly.8) You can rise above your environment. There is no need tobe influenced by it. Don't let negativity pull you down. Ifyou are strongly positive, you can pull people to your wayof thinking.9) Remember that happiness and positivism are contagious. If you are happy and positive, you will influence accordinglythe people you come in contact with. When two negative people meet, they strengthen each one'snegativity. When two positive people meet, they strengthentheir positivism, whereas when a negative and a positiveperson meet, the stronger one will win.Become conscious and aware of the importance of staying positive, and strive always to be so. This will make you stronger than thenegative people you meet.10) Whenever a negative thought presents itself, tell itthat you are not interested.11) Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, replaceit with a positive one. Refuse to think the negative thoughtand look at a positive one.12) Several times during the day find some moments to thinkabout you life and goals. Think about what you want toaccomplish today, in a weak or a month. Visualize success, happiness, and a positive outcome of your plans. When doubtscreep in, refuse to do anything with them.Changing your thoughts may need some time. You are changinga deep-seated habit. Persevere and you will win.©2003 copyright Remez Sasson.
