Guest guest
Hi , Let me tell you my story. I decided , like you have that when/if I reached the stage where the docs said I needed a t p, I would say no. I'm 58 & single, no family outside my parents (78 & 79), brothers , sisters & their kids. I felt that any liver that became available could be better used by someone younger, with kids depending on them. Also, there was some guilt involved. My HCV is a self-inflicted wound. I caught it shooting drugs in the 60's( something I haven't done in 20+ years) Then it happened. A year ago, my doc found a lesion on my liver (they still don't know if it's cancer, they can't reach it to biopsy it) Just out of curiosity I went for the t p testing. There were various other treatments suggested but all turned out to be undoable so t p was the only answer. I was still undecided, then my family weighed in. They wouldn't take no for an answer & then, a miracle! My nephew offered to donate part of his liver! This means I won't be taking a liver from anyone else, I'm the only one who's being offered this liver so of course I agreed. My nephew has to go through all of the testing & if he's not suitable, that option is over. Now that I've had a year to think about it, I've decided that my life is just as important as anyone else's. The t p can give me 15 years of life, allow me to live out my normal life span & until the Hep comes back, a healthy one. I'd like that. If & when the time comes that I'm offered a cadaver liver, I'll make my final decision but it has surprised & pleased me how many people want me to agree. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm a fighter & I won't let asomething that can't be seen except with an extremely powerful microscope beat me! It's your decision & you'll make it yourself but I thought you might like to hear from another in your position.SuZie & Sir SpYke the Fuzzy who NEEDS his mama!!!!!If Fed Ex & UPS merged, would they call it FED UP?
