Guest guest
have to be extremely careful here when making " always " claims. Kind of like the old geometry adage that " a square is a rectangle, but a recatangle is not always a square. " Some, and very likely a large number of Thyroid Disease cases are autoimmune in nature. Especially when you consider Hashimoto's (40% of Hypothyroidism cases) and Grave's, which is also high on the list of Hyperthyroidism. In our subsets where we have autoimmune diseases we probably have an extremely higher likelihood of getting other autoimmune diseases and this would include the thyroid related ones. However, and again this is where our PCP and RD come into play and do and should do a complete workup to differentiate if it is autoimmune in nature. Remember with our meds we are also prone to other " bad " things. There are thyroid problems that are endocrine or tumor related. Those things need to be ruled out as well. So pay attention to your symptoms and bring them to the attention of you rheumy so they can be reviewed and worked up. Remember that your docs should be consulted with any new or discovered symptoms for your conditions.
