It was an honor to represent Texas for those of us who were

fortunate to be able to attend the 'Green Our Vaccines' rally. I

cannot explain the emotions as we were in company of thousands of

families across the U.S. who are living in the same world as us, and

raising children with autism. Their stories were tragic and

heartfelt. Lots of tears were shed, and we certainly showed

Washington our faces.

There was a long line of parents filtering into the Senate building

immediately following the rally. Again, pretty amazing that any of

us were able to get away from our parenting, special diets and

therapies to mobilize and join forces in DC. We are not a group

that has an easy time traveling. Some were brave enough to take

their kids.

We met with Senator Cornyn's health assistant, and he said that they

do not hear much regarding the autism issue from parents. This was

disappointing, but at the same time empowering for our small group.

They need to hear our stories. I encourage everyone to write a

letter to Senators Cornyn and Hutchison about your life with autism.

Thanks,

Could it be a case of bad record keeping or poor office management? I have

contacted both senators about autism issues and have the stupid generic form

letter responses to prove it. In fact I'm on Cornyn's electronic newsletter

email list now because I have sent him so many messages--I guess my address was

captured? I even get letters from Hutchison's office regarding topics other

than autism from time to time. He's either misinformed or lying.

Thanks for going. . . . . .

I wonder if the health aide “not hearing much” is the same as Kathy Clayton

“not getting any complaints” . . . . . . . I would be very surprised that

people haven’t been writing in—Coryn was around when the Combatting Autism

Act was going through—he was even a co-sponsor. So, I’m surprised they his

office is “not hearing much” about autism issues.

He historically has voted against the SCHIP bills. Check out his voting

Yeah -- people have been writing.

Problem is, like with Hutchinson, they - she - ain't even reading them. How

many of us have written to Kay about autism - and received a canned reply

about the war - or some other subject that was NOT what we wrote to her about?

That's what impressed me so much about the members of Texas Senate

Education Committee who not only listened to families affected by

autism, and took action in the form of drafting and sponsoring

legislation, but actually HEARD us, as evidenced by their tears during

parent testimony on SB 1000. It was remarkable how some were so

visibly moved, while other committee members with their minds already

made up either didn't show up for the hearing (only to return just in

time to vote against it) or only heard " what they want to hear. "

WOW If some of you have the letters you wrote with the " canned " replies, I

am sure the proper media outlets could do something with them---people write

their representatives (who they voted for to speak on their behalf) to let

them know where their concerns are, and if htey aren't reading/listening to

what we have to say, they need to go out with the trash! I bet even people

with non-autism issues are getting the same canned replies, but they just

said themselves they never hear from parents with autism, so if you got the

proof you contacted them....... :)

No offense to you, but I find that very hard to believe. I have a file full

of letters from them telling me how they don't plan to vote for anything

autism, you know that " yes we care, but this is how we see it " letters.

After awhile, people probably say to themselves, " why waste my energy with

them because they aren't going to vote for things that will help my child and

my energy is better used on a state level. " I think I might go do some

research to see just how many things they voted against (or for) that didn't

Thank you for going to Washington and going to the rally. I loved the

, I am a member of the chapter in Austin. I've been trying to contact

you to develop a working relationship. I've only been a member for a short time

but from what I see there is a lot of redundancies and I personally feel the

organizations within Texas could benefit by utilizing the talents in an

effective manner. I am open to ideas to improving the lives of individuals

living with autism I have two boys with ASD and nothing would make me happier

than to see Texas become one.

I hope this email isn't intrusive because that isn't my intention. I am

currently working to coordinate with the Legislative Forum in September and

would like to collaborate with other organizations within Texas. I spoke with

Frye yesterday he was elected to one of the seats on the State Democratic

Executive Committee for Democrats with Disabilities he and I plan to meet next

week. Again, I feel strongly about unification and utilizing the wealth of

skills that are active in each organization.

I hope to hear from you as I am looking forward to a new phase for the Texas

Autism Society Association.

Thanks,

dissent with disloyal subversion. "

, I am a member of the chapter in Austin.

Remember power is in numbers.

Yeah -- people have been writing.

Problem is, like with Hutchinson, they - she - ain't even reading them. How many

of us have written to Kay about autism - and received a canned reply

about the war - or some other subject that was NOT what we wrote to her about?

Thanks for going. . . . . .

I wonder if the health aide “not hearing much” is the same as Kathy Clayton

“not getting any complaints” . . . . . . . I would be very surprised that

people haven’t been writing in—Coryn was around when the Combatting Autism

Act was going through—he was even a co-sponsor. So, I’m surprised they his

office is “not hearing much” about autism issues.

He historically has voted against the SCHIP bills. Check out his voting
