Guest guest
Ellen On a medical encyclopedia I have about Thyroid probles they mention that's a VERY importan detail to tell the Endocrinologist / It tells themfor certain of certain thyroid conditions. Tey said to record your temp. for 2 weeks & take it to your appmt. I feel that Stills & thyroid problems are related. I don't believe the Dr.s' have made a connection about this. but there is one the has a clinic for Fibromyalgia & HE HAS. I'd like to coment this coonection to him. I don't think HE's heard of Stills. His name is Dr. Lowe & his Email is just like that. VIVI **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Guest guest
Actually, I cheated big time,I asked every person who came in my room for a blanket.I think I ended up with 8! Then the head nurse came in and took one look at the blankets and they had me on a machine that constantly measured my temp,oh yeah really high! She immediately whipped those balnkets off and left me with a sheet and put me in the ice bed with a gage that went where the sun doesn't shine.I'm telling you those nurses have no sense of humor! Guest guest
That's happened to me in a few different ways...and I have been thrown into ice buckets & cold showers.......but no more as I will fight with every ounce of energy I can muster to prevent that LIVING HELL from ever occurring again in this lifetime! The worse was while hospitalized while in the Army, they had me shackled to a bed, packed in ice in front of a F****** AIR CONDITIONER until my fever finally came down, and they did that a few times. THNAK GOD my memory about the majority of that particular instance is vague or I would have been in jail a long, long time ago for murdering an entire staff of assholes!!!!! I can honestly say that is by far the worst thing (by far) that I've lived through. You have chills so damn bad you are willing to eat a bullet!......yet that isn't bad enough so they think they are doing you a favor by torturing the ever living shit out of you by " freezing " the temperature in you down. There has to be a better way in this day & age, as this is beyond brutal. Every time I get wicked chills I remember these incidents, and hide! I will take death over going through that hell again. Guest guest
Vivi honey, Have you actually seen Dr. Lowe? And by the way, I do believe this low core base temp subject is important enough that it should be brought to the attention of our individual doctors. I know my last RD would pass it off as a momentary glitch in his thermonoter (sorry about the spelling, it's early) and the RD I have now, as much as I like doesn't seem to give it much validity either but I will make a point of it next time I see him. So it seems this is more of a common thread between us than say, our " rashes " . Low core temps, and lack of sleep. Any other quirks? Take care and be well. Guest guest
Hi all, I just thought I'd chip in with this discussion about low base temps and ask if anyone is like me in that my temp doesn't take acurately at all when taken under the tongue or arm. It only seems to measure correctly when it's taken in my ear. Does anyone else find this? I wonder why it is? It was so frustrating as on one of my hospital admissions, they refused to acknowledge that I kept having spiking temps because they only had a 'tongue' thermometer and it just didn't record anything very acurate at all. They didn't understand it either sometimes as I used to look really flushed etc but didn't have much of a temp according to the thermometer! I knew myself that it wasn't right though. They thought I was mad when I said it only took in my ear. They didn't believe me enough to test it out either though which is a shame. I suppose there's no real explanation for why this might be though? Anyone else find this? Good news.....AOSD has made it into the medical textbooks at last! My Mum's a nurse and she was reading one of the new textbooks that were lying around the surgery she works in and there it was...AOSD in its own right! That's got to be good news.It was only a small paragraph but small acorns and big trees eh! It said about not all treatments working for everyone and that low vitamin D levels were a common finding in Stills patients. I have got low Vit D levels....anyone else?Never heard that one before. Best wishes Kate (UK)

Guest guest
Hi Kate! So I went to the primary doc today and asked him a bunch of questions about this core temp thing that seems to be holding our attention at the moment. He told me some very interesting things. 1. If you take your temp through your ear, the tip of the digital therm. and your ear drum MUST be alined or else you're going to get a bad or wrong reading. 2. If you take your temp under the tongue it has to be in the exact right spot or pocket once again, otherwise you will not get a proper read. You also have to wait at least 10 minutes if you're drinking anything either hot or cold AND you can't be out in the heat of day either otherwise it will sway the reading. 3. is more of a foot note: Not recommended at all since it's not reliable. And finally the best way and most consistant is to take your temp with a rectle thermomator and up your butt. Yes just as your Mom did when you were a baby. Any questions? Talk with your doctors, I'm out once he said I needed to take my temp in my touche. As for us making it into the medical books? Nice to know we are official! Thanks Kate. Take care and be well.
