Guest guest
Hi , So sorry to hear you are dealing with this problem. Yes. Your story is very similar to many on this board. Sounds like you are off to a good start of addressing it properly. Know that many people do not remain extremely environmentally sensitive for the rest of their lives. For some, it just takes time to recover. In a message dated 3/14/2011 6:04:25 P.M. My husband, my 6 year old daughter and myself left our home 4 months ago after we found significant levels of stachybotrys and aspergillus penicillium (not sure if I am spelling these correctly). My daughter has had significant developmental and gastrointestinal issues since birth and I have had a slow demise with depression, anxiety and thyroid problems. Since we left the house we are all showing slow improvement, but the candida is relentless. We are currently on a zero carbohydrate diet (just meat, veggies, coconut oil, kefir, yogurt) and it has done wonders for us. However, we require high levels of probiotics to remain functional (very expensive!) We are now so chemically sensitive to everything it's awful. I am thinking of buying some austin air purifiers, do people recommend these? I am wondering if my story is similar to others here. Thanks very much,
Guest guest
Nobody mentioned this and even though its kind of understood I thought its worth mentioning. Its a good idea to start switching all the products at home to natural non toxic stuff. Like detergents, shampoos, etc. Get rid of the fabric softener sheets! Now that you've become sensitive these things may start bothering you too soon. Good luck! And when you and your family are ready to try some natural remedies and supplements, we have a ton of good recommendations! Surella > > Hi , > > So sorry to hear you are dealing with this problem. Guest guest
Hi - I truly applaud you for being so proactive in finding solutions for you and your family. It can be so difficult moving forward into positive solutions when compromised with physical challenges including never ending brain fog that can make even the simplest task so draining. So I am beaming you all sorts of positive and healing energy through the email airwaves. I was poisoned 10 years ago and have had MCS ever since. And my sensitivities are pretty severe and wide reaching. Thanks to an awesome enviro doc who started me on my journey to better health, I have come to know my MCS fairly well....triggers, reactions, how to manage reactions, etc. However that said, what bothers me one day may suddenly be fine the next and it's the moving target aspect of this illness that still challenges me the most. Until 4 months ago, I still had not found an air cleaner that I could tolerate. I bought/returned most of the major brands due to a variety of factors, the most common being the materials used to build the cleaners. I don't don't well with HEPA, glues, plastics and even some of the carbons used in many air cleaners marketed to those with chemical eradication needs. The reason I mention all this is to pass the word along that shopping for an air cleaner may require trying several models as not all air cleaners are made the same and unfortunately, not all chemical sensitivity reactions are the same. What bothers one may not bother another sorta thing. Materials used, location of motor, type of air intake, CFM may be important factors for consideration. All total, I probably bought/returned 16-17 cleaners by the time I found the brand I have now and seem to be ok with it most of the time. Many air cleaner distributors have stringent air cleaner return requirements. Quite often policies are original free shipping to customer, 15-30 days return timeframe, customer pays return shipping, 15-25% restocking fee plus reimburse company for original shipping to the customer. It doesn't sound like much but can really add up if trying different machines for personal tolerance testing. A miracle that I tripped upon an online distributor (who carry Austin and other main brands) and has an unbelievable unconditional money back no questions asked return policy...and they mean it. I returned 2 cleaners and the whole thing did not cost me a dime. They have free shipping to customer, they pay return shipping, 60 days to try the item, no sales tax outside Virginia, and no restocking fee. PLUS they have 10% coupons all over the internet so on my $800.00 machines, I saved $80.00 per machine. No shipping, no tax. They are the truly real deal and in all the years I've been sick, have not found anywhere else that offers the same. Perhaps members of the group know of others out there and I just never found them. So just want to share my experience when it comes to air cleaner shopping, particuarly with a fellow MCSer. I am so grateful to finally have these 3 machines that I feel like are honestly saving my life right now. So I wish you the best with finding a machine that meets you/your family's needs. Guest guest
Kathy, Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it. It sure is scary to leave your house and spend your retirement money. I keep trying to tell myself that we are investing in our health and no amount of money would be able to bring that back, so it's worth it. Again, thanks, >> > Hi - > > I truly applaud you for being so proactive in finding solutions for you and your family. Guest guest
Hi - The one constant that never seems to go away and is the whole money thing. 95% of what my body needs is not covered by insurance and just my supplements alone...ugh! I have found many ways in which to ratchet down my costs and between belonging to a Coop, connecting with local organic farmers, online coupons and other things, I am saving a ton but it is all still very costly. One of the things that many PWC's do is with a doctors RX, much of what we need (including air cleaners) may be a tax deduction depending upon how someone files. But in spite of that, there are still things that I should be doing that I can't because of my financial situation. Going from high powered career to surviving in a fixed income has been a huge adjustment indeed. And my hats off to you for handling such responsibility for an entire family. Just my diet alone...once I became informed about what I was really eating...I can now never go back. It's the old " know I know what I didn't know " . Guest guest
Ditto on the retirement money-ours was spent 5 years ago when I started to get sick. We poured everything (plus money " borrowed from my Mom " into the house to make it safe. It is safe now, barring occasional new flare-ups, but we will never retire. That's gone. However, in defense of spending the money I am having an ongoing argument with my daughter, who moved into a very moldy house with 2 kids (one infant!) and claims she " can't afford " (she can) to remediate right now! She will be singing a different tune when god forbid someone gets sick. It's ridiculous and sad. Surella > > Kathy, > Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it.
