Guest guest
Welcome, Dave! Stress plays a huge part in flaring, for me at least, but I think you will see that others will respond the same. Thanks goodness you have good benefits and, more importantly, a wonderful family support. As far as exercising, I used to be a freak about it but had to stop due to hip pain. I would suggest discussing it with your doctor and easing into whatever activity you decide upon. By the way, I have had Still's for over twenty years, been through different treatments and flares. I have learned to cope in many ways, but I did have to stop working and go on Social Security Disability at the age of 30. I find if I do too much, I pay for it for a few days. Hope you feel better soon and again, welcome! Guest guest
Welcome Dave! I am really glad you found us, it's a wonderful group of people here. I am 35 and single and some days it's just flat out hard. I don't work for a great company nor do I have anyone to take care of me. So i've just had to plow ahead and make do the best I can. It has meant making career choices I am not happy with, but I've had to do what I've had to do, you know. As far as exercise, it's really what your body can handle, i think we are all at different levels. For the 4 years prior to diagnosis, I was exercise intolerant, which means no exercise at all or I get worse off. Now that I am on consistent treatement, my exercise levels vary. Sometimes I can do heavy exercise sometimes not. What I do is take it slow. When i know I am strong enough to exercise, i start with stretching and short walks and the move up from there. I back off when I've reached a level that is stressing my body too much - I can usually tell by my levels of fatigue. Feel free to jump in here and join us - we won't bite! Guest guest
welcome and all the other new people I am an old fart and have had stills for over 7 years now. I know I flair if I get to stressed out be it mentally or physically. it has been a wild ride living with stills but i am starting to learn how to hang on to this bucking dragon and make a go of it. Like you I for the most part now have a family that supports me .. my mother and sis always have same with my son but my ex wife divorced me over it and my daughter for what ever reason has nothing to do with me any more and she is 18. I am remarried to a wonder full woman and she treats and cares for me as I always believed and felt I should be and how i try to treat right back . the reason for stating this is life dose go one just changed some and how we ajust our out look on life . as for exercising to help stills all I do is try to walk around the most I can daily and that is to keep the joint moving and not much more . well welcome the redneck Marty The whole of that Bill [of Rights] is a declaration of the right of the people at large or considered as individuals...t establishes some rights of the individual as unalienable and which consequently, no majority has a right to deprive them of. ---Albert Gallatin to , Oct 7, 1789 The great object is that every man be armed " and " everyone who is able may have a gun. Guest guest
Hello Dave, Welcome to the group. Sorry you have to be here. The only exercise I can do anymore is swim and I used to be a real jock-ette before getting stills. Quite frankly, I've not totally noticed the relationship between stress/flares for me. Either because I'm always stressed???? or maybe because the minute my symptoms get out of the " norm " , I do something about them. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv, but.... it seems to me that most of the problems I hear on this loop happen when people lower steroids too quickly. Going down from 60mgs to 20mgs in 4 months seems quick to me. I know I never did it that quickly. But then I've never been off of prednisone since onset 10 years ago. The lowest is 1/2mg every other day. And that was only for a few months. I know that prednisone is really bad for you, but I'm a big baby and cannot deal with the pain otherwise. Good luck to you Dave. Carole in Hollywood FL In a message dated 4/20/2008 6:14:58 P.M.
