Guest guest
I was driving back from Whitewater a few nights ago and it was snowing like crazy. While beautiful, I'm so not looking forward to black ice or the blistering cold =( Last year I slid out while on the freeway. Used the power of Physics to get me out of the ditch, too! LOL. -- -

Guest guest
My darlings: I've been there, went through that and you can't pay me enough to do it again. The only thing I have to shovel at this point is the sunshine off the sidewalk and the knee deep " stuff " from the snowbirds down here. For those of you that don't know what a snowbird is; it's people that come to Florida only for the winter months. You know, the ones that can't drive! I'm off to the chiropractor now, catch you all later. Take care and be well. Ellen

Guest guest
In point of fact I miss the snow too. I miss the mountains more though and where there are mountains, there's snow. I don't miss the black ice that mentioned, nor do I miss shoveling the stuff but I do miss the feeling it used to give me inside. The trade off, however, was worth it to me. Moving to Florida was the right move in order to limit the visits to the resort (thanks Kirk). Oddly enough I've heard that some don't do well in the warmth of Florida, I find it very helpful. Stifeling (sorry about the spelling) perhaps in the summer but helpful just the same. It's just too flat! Take care and be well. Guest guest
My 2 cents worth: I love the change in seasons. I lived in Florida for 5 years and missed the change of seasons. Here in SE PA is a nice balance. We get maybe 2-3 snowfalls during the winter and the major outages due to heavy snow comes every 2-3 years, not every year. Fl is so dang hot during the summer. Although it was nice to just plop into the pool whenever I would get soaked with sweat. Elly, on the West Coast of Fl we called them " Blue Hairs " . Guest guest
Tom: On the South East coast we call our snowbirds, q-tips or altacockas (Yiddish for old farts). Either way it goes they still can't drive! I have to admit I miss the change of seasons tremendously. Christmas isn't exactly same when people string lights on palm trees and I'm walking around in shorts and a t-shirt. The last winter I had up in NY I was bedridden pretty much all the time. I worked at the A & P, would take huge amounts of drugs in order to go to work but otherwise I was in bed. Mind you Rubin was 2 to 3 years old at that time and worked 2 jobs while I worked my 1 job just so we could keep our heads above water a bit. That was one of the reasons for my applying for SSI/D. I do, however, miss the first snowfall, fireplaces and the smell of them, and believe it or not I even miss sledding. I don't, however, miss the layering of clothing, heavy jackets, three pairs of socks or my mother yelling " don't drag any snow in here " after I walked in the front door with everything on. I don't know what she was thinking but I wasn't about to strip to my skivies on the front steps! Now that that image is burned into your brains I'll leave the subject alone. LOL, sorry about that. Take care and be well. Ellen

Guest guest
Down here in South Texas, we call sun followers 'Winter Texans'. I'd like a few days of winter...but give me the 60 and 70 degree coolth we have through February any ol' day. Just wish it'd carry over for the summer too. in TX

Guest guest
A lot of people mention that the heat helps them... but I find I get overheated so easily now, and my hands and feet swell up and become painful when it's too warm. I prefer it cool. I can always put on a sweater, but there is only so naked I can get without getting arrested. Ew ew. Maybe I'll want to be a snowbird after this winter though. It's my first winter with stills, so I may change my mind about loving the cold!

Guest guest
darling, I LOVE the cold! As a matter of fact I've been in Florida for 12 years and still keep my house at 73 degrees which is barely comfortable to me but my boys are a little too cool. You're blood doesn't thin here you just acclimate to the climate - they have, I haven't. Yes, my hands and feet swell in the heat, but that's why there's a pool everywhere you look, A/C in just about every building and car, and plenty of water to go around. But you're right, you should try being a snowbird, short of greying your hair, wearing false teeth and coke bottle glasses, of course. Take care and be well.
