, I'm so sorry you have so much trouble with your surgeries.  I'll be

thinking about you and your Doctor's good eyesight, knowing he'll get all of the

infection out and everything will be working properly after surgery.  stay

positive and know we are wishing you well.

Subject: Im in the hospital, it is an infection

Hey guys, well I was right, and as much as I love being right, I wish I had been

wrong. I figured that once I saw the doc that he would send me straight to the

hospital, and that is what happened. I went ahead and packed a bag, brought my

laptop and stuff to read.

So what happened, I saw the ortho today, he was hoping it was a hematoma, but

given I was running 102 fever by then not likely, He aspirated the swollen area,

and drew out 2 huge tubes of fluid that was definitly infected. ( sorry it it

gets gross here) it should have been clear, but this looked like brown gravy. So

here we are, Im on IV vancomycin, and they will do surgery tomorrow afternoon,

now, he said he doesnt think he will need to remove the prosthesis, he thinks it

hasnt spread yet since so much was pulled out right there in the office that was

just under the skin. but the surgery is to clean out the infected area and

debride any tissue. and hopefully that will do it. I should be here a few days

on the IV's and then I should be able to go home on IV's . My surgery is not

scheduled until 5pm tomorrow, since I have the infection , Im the last one. But

Im doing good, I dont have much pain and Im just gonna try to rest tonight, and

I will update yall

tomorrow evening as soon as I can.. Thanks so much for all the prayers

Bummer , but at least you caught it early. Better that than to have

it get so bad that it ruins the joint

Hang in there. I'm sorry.

Just think, I keep thinking about how without all of this technology, I

would not have survived passed the age of 24 when I had a ruptured cyst from

endometrios and my temp went to 104 overnight. I had to have surgery, but

they waited two days for the infection to get under control also. If it

wasn't for the meds we have available and the doctors that understand what

is happening in our bodies (just even 100 years ago they didn't know). I

would have been a goner...

So I just keep trying to have a good attitude instead of a bad one, I figure

what does a negative attitude give me if I want to enjoy some of my life :).

It's hard though and I know it - especially where you are right now - so

hang in there and try to enjoy the attention (ha).

What hospital are you at...

Sorry to hear that Jen.  I was worried about you since I read your post about

the incision and redness.  Just from my own experiences I knew it was bad

knews.  Did you find out what 'bug' infected you?  Mine was staph aureus both

times.  I just couldn't fight the plain old staph.  Hang in there. Good luck

with the upcoming surgery. I'll be thinking about you.

Hey , I probably wont know what bug it is for maybe another 48 hours or

so , they just did the cultures late this afternoon. I have a feeling it could

be e -coli, but guess we will see. My last infection 10 years, the cultures

never grew anything. It was one of those low grade infections that had settled

on the prosthesis, and had probably been there for years, ( I know odd huh) but

it never got to my bloodstream, the damage it did though was all the bone loss

around the cup and that happened slowly over several years, until they decided I

needed to do the minor revison and swap out liners( polyethelene) and pack in

some bone where I had lost bone, and of course I wake up with the prostheses

removed and on antibiotics. What a shock. Hopefully, Im praying really hard

tonight, that it hasnt reached the prosthesis, even though the surgeon feels

like it's all in the tissue he cant be 100 percent, so when he gets in there

tomorrow afternoon, he may find some there, Im just hoping we wont have to go

that route again removing everything.

Ugh, it's almost like I have a jinx when it comes to hip surgeries. My surgery

is scheduled for 5pm tomorrow. They have just got the vanco running now so it

will run until midnight, then I'll get my ambien and hopefully get some sleep.

If not at least I have my books, and my computer.

I will keep yall updated

Love

Jen
