Guest guest
My Dear Beth: We have a sauna, but I'm afraid to use it because of my MS. I know that when I use the Jacuzzi I do get some neurological symptoms. The MS society has told me not to use our jacuzzi or the sauna because it can bring on a flare! We had a flood and the sauna has no door and the tap fell off the jacuzzi, so I guess that I am safe. I t seems like everything we touch in this home is broken. We are slowly getting things fixed, but our basement is still a mess. My left foot vibrates most all of the time. One of my doctors used to laugh and tell me to see the movie " My Left Foot " , it is an excellent movie. It is a must for us to see. I hope that you are taking care...love....Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````` Rogene: sauna questions > > > Rogene, > > What would you recommend, 30 minutes per day? Guest guest
Beth, I usually do 40 minutes . . . but that includes warm-up. . . and I don't do it on a regular basis. Just when I'm achy or feel the need for it. Right now, I'm taking only supplements the naturopath recommended. . . I found that my stomach wouldn't tolerate any more. I would like to look at the website, but right now, I don't have the time. . . I've got to get the Christmas tree decorated this evening because I'm going out of town in the morning and coming back to a house full of company! Guest guest
-Beth I took glutathione by taking immunocal for several months. I reacted to that by increased pain and eventually just quit taking it. I still have a whole box and it is very expensive. I am now taking a product called Zymitol by Generation plus. It has alpha lipoic acid, msm, and enzymes. I think it is a pretty good product. It comes in capsules and I just break them down to tiny amounts as I herx pretty badly to enzymes. I have been using them for several days now. I think I will like them. They also make a product called Naticor that has nattokinase and enzymes in it. I have that on order. I expect that to be a good product also. Hopefully I will have good things to report about both of them hugs, kathy -- In , " bethlakey " <bethlakey@y...> wrote: > > Rogene, > > What would you recommend, 30 minutes per day? Guest guest
Lea sorry to hear that you have so many things needing to be fixed! It can be exasperating cant it? I have heard others with ms like symptoms say they flare to saunas. I wonder if that is actually a flare, or possibly a herx. I know patty said that she used to get brainfog symptoms when using her infrared sauna. But it helped if she wrapped her head in a towel. Isn't that strange? Have you ever tried olive leaf extract or antibiotic therapy? Antibiotic therapy is helping some people with ms---it is the infectious theory. That these diseases are caused by the bodies reaction to mycoplasma or other infectious agents. Might want to look into it. Guest guest
Dear Lea I find it very hard to sit in jacuzzi's. The heat makes my pulse speed up and my heart beat fast and I get dizzy. I really like the far infrared sauna because it is like sitting outside on a sunny day. You get hot and hotter and then sweat and then cool off. It is safer for people with heart problems than regular saunas. A herx is named after the man who identified it. His last name was herxheimer. A herx is a reaction that your body produces to something you are doing that kills off pathogens. As the pathogens are killed off, the body must eliminate the waste or debri, from these dead organisms. While the body is trying to eliminate them, the dead organisms are releasing toxins into your body. For instance, some yeast killers can make the yeast actually explode. These fragments are toxic just like the yeast itself was. So until your body can eliminate them and clean up the mess, you get increased symptoms. Your symptoms may be more of what you are already experiencing, or something new or different. Most common symptoms of herxes are headache, flu like feelings, nausea, dizziness, etc. It can be very hard to distinguish the difference between a herx, an allergic reaction, and a flare. A flare is a temporary acting up of your disease or condition. Herxes are good because they let you know that you are killing something off. However, they can be nasty and longlasting at times. Also, if your body has elimination problems, they can be even harmful. That is why you often have to reduce dosage when you get a bad herx. That is also why it is important to detoxify. It is when our bodies are too toxic that we can't eliminate the pathogens we kill off and that makes us feel even sicker. there have been many good suggestions on diet here. I think I would definitely increase raw food: foods that haven't been cooked such as vegetables and fruits and nuts and seeds. I would try to eat organic when possible and cut back on grains, sugar and dairy. Many people react negatively to milk. At the very least, I would buy organic milk as most of it today has toomany hormones and antibiotics in it. You might want to try some green and white teas also. They are supposed to be good for you. I started using this japanese twig tea that is supposed to be very alkalinizing. What kind of antibiotics are you taking? Is it to treat your ms? Who prescribed them? Hope you are having a good day today! love, kathy > > > > > Beth . . . Guest guest
Dearest Kathy: Thank you for answering my questions. I'm not sure what kind of a sauna that we have, but it is all cedar, no door because it was destroyed in the flood. There is only one light in this little room with a heater with rocks in it. You must think that I'm really stupid, but I have never been in a sauna. We used it to store all of our bedding in our other home. This is something that we should never do. I would like any information on using our sauna when it is fixed. If it helps to clense the body, I would be willing to try it. Kathy, when I have a flare I have vision loss, mild headache, nausea, and I just feel sick. A herx is the same as a flare. Thank you for your help...love...Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~````` Re: Rogene: sauna questions > > > > Dear Lea > I find it very hard to sit in jacuzzi's. Guest guest
You can get information about the use/benefit of " far infrared saunas " by doing a websearch for them. . . Some manufacturer's have better documentation than others. . . When purchasing, some have better warranties than others. Price can vary considerably. Infrared sauna therapy is relatively new to the U.S., compared to Europe where it's benefits have been know for ages! . . . My daughter, and occupational therapist, uses infrared pads to treat Alzheimer's patients with diabetic wounds, arthritis, and peripheral neuropathy with outstanding results. As compared to ultrasound and other therapies, there is no limit to the time, or number of treatments. Far infrared saunas are different from steam or dry heat saunas in that the air temperature of an infrared sauna does not heat much. The infrared light penetrates tissue as much as 2 " . Infrared is considerably more comfortable since one is not breathing hot air. Rogene

Guest guest
Thank you Rogene for all the information on sauna's. We have a plain old sauna, but I will look for the one that you have mentioned. Do not forget that I live in Canada, we are way behind in things like this. One of the hospitals here is finally using the hyperberic chamber for some diseases. Dr. Blais had told me when I was so very sick that the doctors should use the old Iron Lung Chamber that they used for Polio victims. They have one on display at the university hospital. Love you....Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~````` Re: Re: Rogene: sauna questions > > You can get information about the use/benefit of " far > infrared saunas " by doing a websearch for them. . . > Some manufacturer's have better documentation than > others. . . Guest guest
- lea It sounds like you have a dry sauna. the rocks heat up and the room heats up. some people like those better than steam. Far infrared is kind of like a dry sauna but is really more like just sitting in the sun--minus the brightness! The far infrared sauna's heat has a superior ability to penetrate the body muscle. Also, even though the symptoms of a herx and a flare can be the same, they themselves are not the same. A flare is usually a worsening of the disease (temporary of permanent)and is not caused by killing off pathogens. On the other hand, a herx is caused by killing off pathogens and is usually a good sign that you are doing something effective in helping your body. It is temporary. I am still wondering what antibiotics you are taking and what they are for. Is it the antibiotic therapy that I was talking about?
