Guest guest
Kathy, I had iron deficiancy anemia. My doctor said it was acute and that I was in danger of a heart attack. He put me on prescription iron for a year. I remember him saying that my cell were mishapen from this. Also, when Dr. Brodsky checked my cholesterol the last time my total wa 270. My ldl had gone up and my hdl had gone down. I too was using olive oil, butter and coconut oil. In fact that was when I was using lots of coconut oil.. DR. Brodsky said the coconut oil was bad but I can't imagine DR. Mercola recommending it if it raisies cholesterol. I don't know what to think either. The only thing I can offer you is that I don't think it is good enough for us to just cut down on sugar. I think we have to abstain from it completely. And that means potatoes, rice and all grains. At least that has been my experience. Mercola says that sugar is worse than smoking! If you could stay off it for a few weeks it would be interesting to see if it impacted your cholesterol. Did your doctor give you any iron? Hang in there Kathy. Who knows where you'd be if you hadn't been doing the good things that you have been. Guest guest
Kathy, Sometimes cholesterol can go up drastically just based on what you ate in the previous day or so. . . If you are terribly concerned, you may want to be retested. You can never go wrong by eating healthy . . . don't give up! . . . You may need to review your diet and make some changes. Your body cannot make good cells, or replace damaged cells, out of junk! Please keep working towards an improved diet! Guest guest
I find dairy is the worst thing I can do. It causes my ears to plug and sinuses to act up. Also makes me sluggish. Sugars are actually worse than dairy, especially if used very much. There are lots of sugars in fruits, so I have to do more vegetables. Organic works best for me. Guest guest
Kathy, sorry I haven't responded. I am only gonna respond to this post for now, as I have to rush off to my obgyn appt. But you were on my mind in prayer this morning and something occurred to me! (I'm ok! Just some major morning sickness! its just for an exam.) I wanted to say I am so sorry you are feeling depressed right now. My prayers are with you sister. Also, do not for a minute think all your hard work is a waste of time, ever! You have come to far to ever think that. I am so proud of all the work you have done, and it is paying off! It will more so, as time goes on. I am sure your cholesterol is high, as your hormones seem to messed up. Remember, mine were? Elevated cortisol and low progesterone? See, my hypothyroidism was sending my adrenals out of whack, releasing other hormones -like cortisol and eating up my progesterone, to make up for the big one that I was lacking, THYROID! It wasn’t until I balanced my thyroid and took a little progesterone that things have calmed down! All my levels are normal now. Yes, even high cholesterol levels! Food isn't the one thing that makes it go up. Hormones do big time. Cholesterol is a stress hormone. That I never has problems with, until I was hypothyroid. I will send you a link. Are you being treated fro thyroid right now? if so, perhaps it isn't enough. Dr kolb is seeing a lot of thyroid resistance in her previously implanted patients. If not, please have your free t3 and free t4 levels, as well as TSH checked. high cholesterol levels and thyroid issues are two in the same in many instances! I am praying for you, and urge you to look into this. My total cholesterol when I was really hypo was 240! Arg! Hello! I never had issues with it. It is now, safely back at 187. But it didn’t budge, until I was treated properly. As for the only things, iron is also linked with hypothyroidism and is a common problem. I was anemic for a while, after I had Tyler and was severly hypo. I will pray for you, and hope this helps. Read my links. ---- Original Message ----- From: mikat828 Sent: Friday, November 26, 2004 5:19 AM Subject: Re: julie: raw eggs/mercola -Thanks. So are you saying that there is no gluten in primal defense and it is safe for me to use? I am kind of depressed right now. For the last year especially I have eaten what I think is very well. I eat practically only organic chicken, beef and eggs. I eat salads with organic vegetables mainly. I use olive oil, coconut oil, and butter only. I had cut way back on grains and for a while, starches. For the last 2 months I had eaten no grains. I had cut way back on sugars also. I have also done some juicing and mild detoxing.Anyway, I went to this dr for my menopausal type symptoms and she ran tests. My blood work was not what I hoped. First, my wbc was 3.4 which is pretty below normal. It has never been that low. My total cholestrol was 257. It was lasted tested at 185. My ldl was higher than normal range when it was normal in 2002. However my hdl--good cholestrol was 54 which is better than the 35 I previously had and my triglycerides were low. Lastly, my iron was still on the low side with below normal saturation and they did this blood smear which showed I had some abnormal shaped blood cells. When I asked the nurse practitioner what that meant, she didnt know. The doctor had put check marks next to them and a question mark. I compared my cbc to ones I have had over the years (I save my tests). Apparently 2 years ago I had these same type of cells--poilkocytosis and ovalocytosis-- and now it addition, something called burr cells. My regular doctor didn't mention the others 2 years ago. So I looked them up. They seemed to be connected with anemias--some due to cancer and with kidney failure or can be maybe iron deficiency anemia. However my rbc were normal and so was my hemoglobin--while on the low side of normal. I also had a high vitamin b12 level. the normal range is up to 878. mine was 1400 2 years ago and now is over 1000. I have had 2 doctors tell me that it doesn't matter as long as it is not low, but apparently some forms of leukemia are associated with it(but you would have a high wbc too). i saw one connection between it and iron deficiency anemia. So I don't know what to think except that maybe I have just been wasting my time the last year or two thinking I could make a difference in my health with my diet. My hormone levels --saliva testing--showed low progesterone, low testerone, and borderline estrogen. Does anyone know what could have caused the big increase in cholesterol? could it be that I was eating organic eggs daily--sometimes for breakfast and lunch? Or salmon, which I get from the Dr. Mercola recommended site? I eat that several times a week. I don't take vitamin supplements so I can't explain the high b12 and certainly don't understand the low wbc and other abnormal shaped cells. I am just so discouraged at this point. Anyone having any thoughts on any of this? Why isn't my diet making a difference in my wbc or iron levels or quality of my blood? Why would my cholesterol go up so much? Thanks, kathy-- In , "JOSEPH PALANCA" <juliejp61@m...> wrote:> Kathy- not while pregnant, but I called Garden of Life's customer service on this. Although, it has wheat and barley grasses, they are not gluten proteins and not grains. They are grasses. I never reacted on it or the optimal formula, as it has grasses too. Its ok, as it is not grains! great catch too, by the way, I saw the gluten free and thought no more until I saw the grasses. Then I was like-oh no! julie > Re: julie: raw eggs/mercola> > > > > > > can you still take primal defense? Guest guest
Kathy, The naturopath I saw gave me three homeopathic products to de-acidify my body. . . I don't know which ones would be appropriate for you. The naturopath said that my body was at the extremes he had tested, and that it put me at high risk for cancer. There are foods that can contribute to acidity http://w3.bluegrass.net/~jclark/alkaline_foods.htm Also, sea salt can reduce acidity . . . check this website. http://www.curezone.com/foods/saltpage.html One thing for sure, processed foods, refined grains, sugar, and junk foods aren't going to help you heal. It's hard to make an abrupt switch, so I suggest that you gradually find ways to add healthy foods to your diet. . . One's appetite for junk will gradually fade away. There is some debate on coconut oil . . . check the info on http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/. I've found that I do very well with coconut oil. However, I can't bring myself to eating three tablespooons a day as recommended! I prefer to use it for cooking whenever appropriate. Since I don't fry foods, or make desserts, I'm fairly limited . . . However, I do like occasional pancakes or biscuits made with coconut oil. Guest guest
Kathy, I would start looking for a naturopath by asking for recommendations local health food stores. . . Go to several places and see if you can find someone who is well respected by several people. Ask at one store about recommendations from the other stores. . . Sometimes a naturopath will own the store. (Mine does) .. . . so keep that in mind. My primary care doctor (a D.O.) recommended the naturopath I saw. Unfortunately, not all naturopaths were created equal (I'm trying to be polite). . . You need to be careful, or you could end up spending a lot of money for nothing! Also, you may be able to find a naturopath online. Maybe some of the ladies here, who see naturopaths, can help you with a recommendation. Before you make an appointment, you can stop by and talk with him/her about what they can do for you, and how they will go about it. . . I took my hubby with me (Mr. Skepticism). While hubby was still somewhat skeptical, it eased my way. My naturopath took blood, urine, and saliva tests. I wish he did live cell testing, but he doesn't. He used a computer to help analyze the tests, and gave me a graphic printout showing how much I deviated from the norm. He spent almost four hours with me going over every aspect of my health. By the time I was finished, I spent $145 for his services and about $300 for supplements. Insurance doesn't cover anything! It took a leap of faith for me to spend that much! . . But I was desperate! I was trying to work up nerve to ask for a motorized chair at big stores. . . as well as a handicap sticker for my car. . . Within a few days, I began feeling better. That was about five months ago. I've been able to cut back on supplements, and I've been able to buy most of what I'm taking online at a considerable discount. . . Most of the supplements I'm taking are Garden of Life products. I found a place that discounts at 30%, then takes 10% more off of that! Hope this is enough to get you started!
