Guest guest
I've received many helpful e-mails from many of you. Thank you all for your help! I need a little more though. I tried connecting to a link from one of your e-mails (don't know which one) to find a surgeon for explantation. My computer detected a virus, so I did not open it. If you could give me the list through the web address, maybe I could get it this way. Thanks to all of you! Gale

They will remove your implants "en bloc" and do a> total capsulectomy, if> at all possible, which is a necessity for your> eventual recovery. Check> with the one you chose to be certain they are still> doing removal this way,> if at all possible. In rare cases, it might not be> possible.>> 2. They are skilled at obtaining preapproval from the> various insurance> companies for you and will fight if they have to. You> need to read the> article on "How to Obtain Insurance Preapproval for> Explant," to help them> as much as possible though; to receive a copy, post to> me at> Sursiliimpaol.>> 3. They have a terrific reputation for producing good> cosmetic results> without replacements. Often at least a modified> breast-lift (mastopexy)> will also be necessary, especially for those who have> had children. If the> plastic surgeon you have seen tells you will look> deformed without saline> replacements, get out of his office because this> simply is not true in the> vast majority of the cases for those who have been> implanted for cosmetic> purposes. For those who had implantation for> reconstruction, rest assured,> they will make the best of it for you by "gussing"> things up so that scars> are less noticable and excess skin is removed, etc.>> 4. They have a lot of experience in removal "en bloc."> 95% of the plastic> surgeons cut open the capsule and tug and pull on the> implant to remove it> which they can rupture in the process creating a> silicone spill perhaps in> your tissue. The "en bloc" method entails removal by> cutting around (there> is normally a plane between the breast tissue and the> capsule/implant --> like the body is rejecting it) capsule and removing it> and the implant as> one unit. This helps scoop up zillions of tiny, tiny> silicone particles,> hold any rupture together until out of you and helps> prevents as I already> have said, a silicone spill.>> 5. If you are having Dow Corning implants removed or> have opted out of the> Revised Settlement (Baxter/Heyer Schulte to 3-31-84,> Bristol/Surgitek and> 3M/McGhan to 8-2-84), they are conversant in how to> document any rupture in the operative report so it is,> hopefully, acceptable for their settlement.> This could result, by proper documentation, in up to> an additional> $25,000.00 from the Dow Corning proposed Settlement> for you!>> 6. If you have been unable to find proof of> manufacturer, most of the p/s'> on this list are very familiar with the breast implant> identifiers> contained in an article on how to nail down Proof of> Manufacturer to be> posted shortly at the> <AHREF="http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/8689/">SILICONE> IMPLANT> SURVIVORS</A>:> http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/8689/ Their> descriptionof the identifers since they do everything> possible to help women, could save you the expense,> time and effort of having an expert identify your> implants; a minimum cost of $300 plus FedExp charges> to send your breast> implants.>> **The $3,000 explant benefit for those who are> eligible for it from the> Revised Settlement, can be assigned to the P/S. It is> not paid, once the> claim is submitted, for approximately 3 months> afterwards. Your local> support group members will, hopefully, know more on> the details for those> P/S' near you, if they will take Medicaid, a Letter> of Protection or> assignment of the explant benefit. Most P/S listed> here will work with> you, if you have a documented rupture of silicone gel> or another urgent medical problem caused by the> implants such as an infection. Guest guest
GG, This list is many years old, and I am not certain that anyone has tried to update the older information. We try to add new as soon as we find someone, but some of these numbers may be disconnected. Thanks for the information and I will check into it and remove if necessary. Patty You wrote: hi lea; read the list of drs - thanks. am wondering tho about Lynda in solana beach, ca at 1-619-755-8127 - is this the right no.? Guest guest
Hi Paddy, Unfortunately, no, we don't know of any. You'd be the one to interview them and find them for us. It doesn't look like we have any in Iowa, or the Dakota's either. Looks like there in a doc on the list from Milwaukee, WI and one in Illinois. You may be able to find one locally....you'll have to do some calling to all the docs in your area and interview them or consult with them. You will want to ask those questions outlined in the file I sent earlier. Basically what you need to know is if they will do an en bloc removal, or alternatively do a total capsulectomy. They must also use drains. If they promise to do these things, you will have a proper explant. I hope this helps! Patty > > Any known physicians for MN?? >
Guest guest
Paddy, You can definitely start calling locally. The doctors may want to set up a consultation, which will cost you money up front, of course. If you can, try to get as much information from the front desk receptionist, such as if the doctor has any experience taking implants out, if the doctor is familiar with en bloc removal, if the doctor uses drains afterwards, and how many explants the doctor has done. When I asked my explanting surgeon, he said, " Hundreds " . You need an answer like that. We usually suggest that you do not go to the doctor who put them in. The reason is because they generally don't have a good attitude about it, and will try to talk you into keeping them, will not admit that they could be making you ill, and basically just take a more defensive stance. There are exceptions to every rule, of course, and if you have a great relationship with the doctor and are confident that he/she just may be compassionate enough to take care of you, AND they KNOW the right way to remove implants, you can use them. It all depends on their experience, as you say, but also be careful of their attitude. It can affect your outcome. We had one girl who got her implants out by a doctor who was so offended that he stitched her up using AWFUL railroad track type scars, and left her practically deformed. You don't want that. You want someone with a sense of responsibility to doing the right thing. You can ask your neurosurgeon, and see what they say. It may be an interesting conversation. Some doctors are astute enough to put two and two together and realize that, in the face of any other explanation, the implants may in fact be causing women to get sick. But most doctors are so brainwashed into believing that implants are safe that they roll their eyes at us, and make other offensive gestures as if we are nuts or out of our minds to suggest that the implants need to come out. I've gotten the look before, like I had a third eye in my head or something. Gird yourself up Paddy! You're soon going to be as smart as those doctors about explant! LOL You'll be able to go toe to toe and get better care in the end, I pray. Patty > > It does help Patty. I will get that info to the list at some point. > If I can't do it before explant I will do it after...but you can be > sure I will do it (get info on doctors in MN). > > At this time I'm looking at Dr. Feng in Ohio but from what you wrote, > I'm understanding I can do this locally but need to do some good > homework first?
