It was extremely disappointing to see how many families of children with autism were there even though autism is specifically mentioned in this charge and THE COMMITTEE WILL BE MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS ON LEGISLATION BASED ON THE TESTIMONY THEY RECEIVE! Highlights: You can link to the streaming video to hear Gene Lenz and Clayton account for themselves as to why Texas was moved to needs improvement. You can hear Nona Mathews give testimony about how most Texas schools are doing an ok job. . . . . And that outta be enough to inspire your fingers to start tapping on the keyboard. NOW is the time to be submitting your wishlist of what could make the system better.. . . .The legislators are wanting to hear about solutions. . . . . .so if you’ve ever been in a meeting and wished X or Y worked a different way or this rule or that rule were different. . . .NOW is your time to let your voice be heard. Here’s a member list of the committee: HYPERLINK " http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Committees/MembershipCmte.aspx?LegSess=80R & C mteCode=C530 " http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Committees/MembershipCmte.aspx?L egSess=80R & CmteCode=C530 Here’s a portion of the charge: Education Study the effectiveness of public school programs serving special education students, including autistic students. Specifically, consider whether special education services are adequately preparing students for post-secondary opportunities. The review should also include the availability and quality of the supports and services provided by adult services agencies for individuals with disabilities. Make recommendations for improving public school special education programs and the coordination of adult education services among state agencies. And here is a link to the testimony—both the hearing and written testimony handed in. Most interesting for you would be to listen to the section where Gene Lenz and Clayton from TEA are testifying. You can look at the different written formats people used to state their position. Mine is under the link of Singleton.
