Guest guest
Sherry, Loose bodies in the knee are caused by small pieces of articular cartilage that are shed into your knee by the wear and tear process of aging. These pieces can increase in size while afloat in your joint fluid. Stills increases your baseline inflammation and may make them more plentiful and grow more quickly in size. Fractures seen on MRI are not always similar to broken bones. MRI scan are very sensitive and pick-up increased loading of an area of your bone and cartilage before symptoms occur or changes are seen on a regular x-ray. Make sure the orthopaedic surgeon takes a good history of your problem and health situation as well as performs a thorough physical exam. No treatment decisions should be based solely on a MRI exam. I would like to say welcome to all newbies and happy birthday to anyone I have missed. Personally to D., glad you have found someone so wonderful to be in your life.Ok down to business. I recently started taking Remicade (2 doses so far) and have noticed little things starting to happen. My fevers have subsided to where I barely notice if I have one. I had a muscle biopsy 2 yrs ago in my left arm and had been unable to raise it past my chest without assistance since then. Now I am able to lift it past my head. I still have pain there but can lift it unassisted. My boyfriend said that I seem peppier since getting the infusions. I have been a little over 2 yrs since dx with no remission and now believe that I am headed for one. At least I hope I am. I still have lots of pain all over, but I know Rome wasn't built in a day and it will take some time for the pain to subside. Can't wait!!Aside from the new stuff going on I have had knee trouble for quite a while. Back in Nov. I let the rheummy drain my knee expecting the pain and swelling to go away. Well at no surprise to me it didn't. My knee is still swollen and in lots of pain. My last appt I asked the Doc to take an xray and see if there was some other reason than fluid for my knee to be in the shape it was. He in turn ordered an MRI and I just got the results back a few days ago. The nurse called and left a message telling me that I have lots of arthritis damage, more fluid, loose bodies (whatever that means) and a possible fracture. I am being scheduled to see an orthopedic surgeon for a more extensive look at my knee. For one I have no idea what they mean by loose bodies and another thing I have no clue how my knee could be fractured. I don't remember doing anything to fracture it. I have a question for those of you that might know. What are loose bodies and how could I have a fractured knee and did nothing to fracture it. Thanks for reading this semi long, drawn out mail and thanks for any answers you can share with me. My love to all and a pain free day as well.Sherry Toledo, OH
