Guest guest
The Soldier I crouch down in my muddy foxhole. Bullets whizzing past my head. All my comrads are so lucky- lying peaceful, lying dead. I ease my head up ever slowly and I see below the hill a soldier wearing different colors whom I know that I must kill. My rifle raises to my shoulder. This new target which I found, is now just a blood-soaked trophy lying lifeless on the ground. Walking down to view his body, I gaze into his unknown face and wonder what the hell we're doing here in this unholy place. I wonder if his wife will miss him. What drove him to hate me so. The soldier who was given orders. A man whom I will never know. If the next time in the battle, a bullet has on it my name; I wonder if the nam who kills me, will look down and feel the same. Guest guest
Compassion when it's most needed. Thank you for sharing this Randy. Really.... I met a soldier this weekend at a wedding I was photographing who is going to get shipped out in a few days to Iraq. His response to me was "I get to go shoot bad guys". The whole family (being a military family) were patting him on the back and encouraging him. I was speechless. The funny thing about this was, the whole family were AMAZING people. Embracing, chatting, crying with each other. Beautiful people. The groom was a Reiki master who worked with different ways of healing, very spiritual bride....etc. But then they encourage their son to go kill people. People who have families, friends, parents. And just might be children themselves. I'm sorry, this poem kind of hit home. There's been a lot on my mind the past couple of weeks. That's a empath for ya. I love you allStefanie>> > > The Soldier> > I crouch down in my muddy foxhole.> Bullets whizzing past my head.> All my comrads are so lucky-> lying peaceful, lying dead.> > I ease my head up ever slowly> and I see below the hill> a soldier wearing different colors> whom I know that I must kill.> > My rifle raises to my shoulder.> This new target which I found,> is now just a blood-soaked trophy> lying lifeless on the ground.> > Walking down to view his body,> I gaze into his unknown face> and wonder what the hell we're doing> here in this unholy place.> I wonder if his wife will miss him.> What drove him to hate me so.> The soldier who was given orders.> A man whom I will never know.> > If the next time in the battle,> a bullet has on it my name;> I wonder if the nam who kills me,> will look down and feel the same.> > Randy>
