my almost 14 year old isn't interested either...she knows i have to buy things,

but has no idea about how the money gets there etc....i sometimes get her to pay

people at counter, if its just a simple item, and i know her aide has done some

teaching on it, don't think she would ever be able to go to a supermarket though

and do shopping....

My 6 year old is still not interested in money. Even when the tooth fairy comes,

she expects (and gets) a small toy...NOT money. I'd like for her to at least

learn some basic money concepts, but she is totally uninterested. How do you

introduce the concept of money to a child on the spectrum? Any advice or

suggestions on how to start, where to begin or what to proceed

with?Karmen

Dont make the mistake I did went out and bought a nice money box gave my

daughter some coins to put into it and when she couldnt see them it lost all

appeal. So instead we got a clear container and a few coins. For every toy she

picked up she got a coin. So now when she picks up her toys she knows she gets

coins. She was happy to go to the dollar store and buy a few items with her

money. Though first off she took up about 10 items which I knew she didnt have

enough money for. So we counted the money and found she could pick 3 toys. So

then she knew the others had to go back. But after that she wanted to pick

everything up so she could go back and buy more toys. Its all about being able

to " see " the money they are earning.
