Guest guest
Hi, Thought I would comment on this subject sense I also suffer from Heitial Hernia as well as Gastritis (this is basically inflammation of the stomach lining - GERD). For me when one or both of these acts up I have a horrible time as those of you who either or these conditions know. I did allot of research & the only way to fix the hernia is with surgery with presents it own problems like not being able to burp (no carbonated drinks). I know this is something we don't like to discuss much but constipation can add to stomach acid when things start building up like bad eating habits, foods, drinks, meds, stress etc... our bodies give up & it comes out as illness/distress. There are a few natural remedies I've tried that do help me. DGL sold at health food stores it's a licorice tablet you chew up as needed, 1 tsp of raw honey every couple hours as needed, a couple slices of red delicious apples as needed, or 1 tsp raw honey with 1 tsp apple cider vinegar as needed, elevating your head 6 to 8 inches at bedtime may help, eating smaller more frequent meals can offer relief & not eating approx. 3 hours before bedtime although for me a couple small red apple slices before bed has helped. As always check with your doctor before trying anything new! You should try things one at a time to see they might help. Sometimes one helps when another doesn't but the next time it will be opposite. Because they are natural remedies I don't have problems trying them all in the same day but I do wait a couple hours not sure that would be the case for everyone. There's no guarantee any of them will work but they have for me & I felt it was worth a try before going the surgery route. I also added probiotic tablets daily & I think it has helped with the digestion & stomach acid. It seems like if I get stomach acid then the Hernia is going to act up. You can do a search online for Alkaline vs Acid foods which is a great tool to help determine what food cause acid & how to help regulate stomach acid. Interesting to me was that GERD is usually caused from not enough acid in our stomachs not from to much. We need both in our diet but if they get out of whack then it can result in stomach distress. None of the medicines my doctor has given me have really helped & if they do it's short lived. I read that these medicines are only for short term use yet people take them for years. I guess it's better than nothing but I felt like I take so many medicines now how can adding more be the solution? For me allot of the meds I take cause stomach problems. I don't have all the answers but sometimes we have to do research ourselves to find something that might work. Everyone is different so what works for one person may not work for another as we can see just by the things we try & use for Stills disease. Anyway sorry to ramble on :} I hope this information is helpful! Take Care, Chris PS Side note - I did have an upper & lower scope which is they determined why I was having stomach problems even though I had a good idea what was going on. My doctor did suggest taking 2 tablespoons of milk of magnesia every 3 days if there is constipation from the medicines. Again talk to your own doctor!!
