Guest guest
My little girl (9) has always been very quiet, patient and polite. She'll be turning 10 in November, and suddenly she's begun to 'come out of her shell', it seems. Which is good, that she's becoming more likely to communicate with our friends (never used to), smile when they play with her (never used to), and she's gotten a lot more open at home about being verbal and, oh yeah, hitting dad in the stomach or the face (when she's 'playing' she's begun to get too rough), slamming doors on you when you're behind her following her into the house or into her room. We've been grateful to see her open up a little lately, but this violent behavior is just so not what she's always been about! She, for no apparent reason, got up, got behind my mom and kicked my mom (who is 74) in the back when they were playing on the floor. She also shoved open the door where my mom was standing on the porch and almost pushed my mom off of the porch (she saw my mom standing there, she just seems to think this is fun right now, despite our telling her it is not acceptable or kind at all). Someone suggested that she's heading for puberty and this is probably part of the emotional changes she's going to go through. Anyone experience a sudden change in behavior like this in their girls at this age? It's so odd. She's always been so sweet and shy and fairly quiet (except when we play together, then she's always opened up and laughed and had fun with me). Thanks in advance for anything you can share that might help us with this right now. Also, we just began getting services for her, with her first Social Interaction class tonight! Interesting timing.
