Guest guest
You might want to check out this comparison guideline for determining how much caffeine to expect in brewed tea (as well as other popular drinks). http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/AN01211 > > > > > Can you use already decaffeinated green and black teas > > that you buy to make your kombucha? The jury is out on if KT uses caffeine or not. If KT " fed " on caffeine then there'd be less caffeine in the finished brew ... but I've heard both that in a final brew the caffeine is less and that the caffeine is just the same. I don't think we really know if KT *needs* the caffeine. > > What we do know is that KT needs tea, aka chai, aka Camellia sinensis. > > Just do what is best for you and enjoy. Guest guest
Yes you can. I'm very sensitive to caffeine and have been brewing decaf KT for over 3 years. I did a caffeine experiment when I started and found out that the caffeine content doesn't change in the KT no matter how long you brew it. I tested it at 3 days, 7 days, 10 days and 15 days 1 month and 2 months- no change in caffeine. I still have a healthy happy brew after 3 years of using decaf tea. BTW. I also brew teasanes (herbal) with no problem. > Can you use already decaffeinated green and black teas > that you buy to make your kombucha?
