Ferritin is a carrier of iron, but also considered a acute phase marker, elevated during inflammation. This is why we see it frequently (but not always and our friend Dr. Cush has it on the list of " minor " items in his AOSD diagnostic schema. (see Dr. Cush references on the stillsdisease.org site,) There is a subset of Ferritin that can be measured called Glycosylated Ferritin, but I have not reasearched that in much detail.
