HI ,

's main curve is at T4, very high. He started at 55 and is now

38 degrees. He has one strap over the shoulder on the 'rib hump' side.

Our doc is Dr. Kishan at Loma , trained by Mehta and worked with

Dr. in Erie. I'm sure both Dr. K's know each other, and since

Dr. Kishan just casted , he might be a good consult.

Great news about Todd's cast though in general - amazing!

Jack has a compensatory/balancing curve as well. I haven't paid much

attention to it since his initial curve was 70° and it was sort of

urgent to just get that down. I'll see what I can find out after this

next round of x-rays. We go for them on Monday, I think.

I am so happy for Todd. What GREAT news!

Seeing those Xrays as your baby's spine gets straight are priceless. I've shed

a few tears when I saw 's films.

He was originally scheduled for Cast #2 in mid February, having

gotten #1 in early November. But he grew so much so rapidly that Dr

Khoury decided to go ahead and change the cast Dec 27 after I sent

photos via email!

His curve started at 50 degrees out of cast. In cast #1, it was down

to 20 degrees. Out of cast after #1 was removed, it was 27 degrees.

In cast #2, it is 16 degrees! I could not believe my eyes when I saw

how straight my baby's spine looked in that film!

Dr K said he thinks that curve will be straight in just 3 or 4 more

casts!!

BUT Dr K said we can't jump up and high-five each other yet. There

is a compensatory curve at T5 that is not resolving. Nobody measured

it to begin with--he said that was because the compensatory curves

usually resolve as the main curve is treated--but in the out-of-cast

xray on Dec 27, it measured 31 degrees. Dr K managed to get it to 27

in the cast, but he says it's too high up (being between the

shoulders) to respond to Mehta cast treatment. He is going to

consult with others and devise a plan of treatment for this T5

curve. He mentioned a possibility of a Risser style cast that would

hold the left arm up. (Argh!) We are meanwhile hoping and praying

for a miracle.

Has anyone else had any experience with this sort of compensatory

curve?

(I would have liked to have posted all this sooner, but we had

several family illnesses and Todd's new cousin was recently born!)
