Guest guest
OH NO! I think it's too tight...His belly is sticking out too much and I think that the skin irritation looks way too bad. When Evan had his skin look like that, they said it was " skin breakdown " and they actually gave him an oral antibiotic b/c it was so bad. I'd call and get in touch w/his doc ASAP as well. It needs to be tight for correction, but theres a point when its too tight. Guest guest
Yes, I think it is too tight and the skin looks like it is really breaking down. I would call ASAP and see if they can either flare it out or get him in a new cast sooner rather than later. Poor bub!! Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Another Mom Seeking Opinion on Outgrowing? Guest guest
I agree! I think both and Dylan have outgrown their cast and need recast ASAP!! , What antibiotic did they give Evan? Sophia is in the same boat and her skin around her hips is raw (a little worse than Dylan's pics). We also have open wounds around the stomach cut out because her stomach is sticking out too far and the cast is pinching her when she sits down hard or falls (she just started walking a month ago). I am having her cut out next Friday if we can make it that long and recast is scheduled in Chicago for 1/28. But I would like to see if her Pediatritian wants to give her some antibiotics now to avoid infection. I am very worried about the skin breakdown and open sores. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the responses. This is our first cast, so my gut was telling me it wasn't right, but I wanted to get some more opinions from some seasoned parents before I really started pushing hard for an earlier appt. with the docs. Guest guest
I am sorry, I truly can't remember what it was. I tried to call my friend who is the nurse at our peds office to see if she remembered, but she's at a funeral today and when I talk to her, I'll try to remember to reply to this post. I really hate that it's doing that to Sophia too, but they really urged me to put him immediately on the oral and then the ointment antibiotic. The Bactroban and Mucripricon (SP?) really helped as well, it's a clear ointment. They did give him the Triamcimilione as well before it actually opened and that is more of the anti fungal/stopped the itch. Sorry I can't remember, he's been on so much it's hard to. I'd try and get Sophia seen if her skin's open b/c it could cause a lot of problems, not to scare you. Let me know what you find out. tinamorris11@... wrote: I agree! Guest guest
Thanks ! I'm calling her Pediatritian now to see what they think. I hate to cut the cast off 10 days before the next one goes one, especially since last time she got sick and we had to reschedule her casting after we cut it off for tests. But I also don't want her to have skin infections that might cause her to be without a cast for longer. We'll see what the doc thinks. Thanks again for your help and experience! -------------- Original message -------------- It was Keflex...not sure if that's the spelling or not,but she just called me back... Guest guest
Okay, HOW did you get ?? Urgh. It does look toot tight, . I'm so sorry. It's so hard. They did tell us that eventually Jack's skin will develop little callouses on the hip bones - and will look like a puppy's paws - which will help prevent breakdown like that. Be very diligent about keeping that rashy area dry - a blow dryer on COOL will help and you might tuck under the top of the diaper for a few days - and leave him diaperless whenever possible. Keep it clean with a damp washcloth and then let it dry. Poor baby. S
Guest guest
I just kept leaving messages....been trying to get in touch with her all week. I left a message this morning saying that I was very concerned about his skin breaking down and that he might be outgrowing his cast and that we had an appt. with the pediatrician this afternoon about the skin breakdown, but could they please give us a call as soon as possible. She called later this morning and said not to worry that they were working on it and the scheduler should be calling me this afternoon. She indicated that Dr. Sturm was cancelling some out of town plans so that he could fit some people in (I got the impression he was fitting more than just us in). So, I'm hoping you will also hear something today once they get their schedule worked out. Thanks, Re: Another Mom Seeking Opinion on Outgrowing? Okay, HOW did you get ?? Urgh. Guest guest
Oh, thank goodness!!! Maybe the email we sent DID help - we sent him the photos late last night and called again this morning to ask that Dr. Sturm please check his email. It's hard - because I know he's a busy man and has surgeries and things - I mean, EVERYTHING is urgent sometimes. But, these babies can't just be left to wait for weeks and weeks while the OR fills up. S
Guest guest
Yes, we sent an email to Dr. Sturm the night before last as well and indicated that she had seen the email. She thought perhaps I'd sent it to her as well, but I'm guessing Dr. Sturm forwarded it to her. So, I think someone (Dr. Sturm or ) is looking at the emails and realizing these casts are too tight.
