Guest guest
Darrell, addresses some of these questions in Early Treatment Defined. It was posted a few months ago, but I think it is also in the files section? If not, I can post it later on today. Basically the way Mehta does it is with shoulder straps and the chest cutouts in the back and front. They are very specific due to rotation/correction, and so the cast doesn't compress the ribs and malform them. SLC is doing a great job using her technique. Shellie Grant dmcmow wrote: Looking at the pictures of everyones casts they differ in a variety of ways. Does the style of cast differ because of the curve or is it just the technique the Dr. uses? What is the best type of cast that allows growth and correction? There are alot of different shapes, sizes, cutouts, shapes of cutouts and thicknesses. I'm just glad my wife's not shopping for his cast. She would have to look at them all before she picked one. LOL Dylan is now in cast #6, first at SLC. Every cast has been different in various ways. All were really the same concept. Dylan's casts here were called a Localiser Cast. The one in SLC, Dr. D'Astous called it a Risser Cast. So I'm asuming this would be the Mehta style of casting. I'm just glad this one fits him!!! 1 month with 1 1/2 to go and doing great! Darrell --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
I think Shellie gave you the perfect response. Even those who use Mehta methods still have slight individualistic styles, but the core components of the cast are the same. One of the big differences from the Spica cast you mentioned, is that the Mehta method uses the AMIL table which treats the curve three dimensionally and is designed for children. You are definitely in good hands at SLC. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Styles and Techniques Looking at the pictures of everyones casts they differ in a variety of ways. Guest guest
Yep - what they said Ours looks particularly unique because of the petaling style they use - but the basic cast is very similar to what we saw when Miss Mehta applied it in August.
