Guest guest
thanks for sharing your experience. so good to know the options out there. we are about to embark on the bracing journey. just waiting to outgrow nadia's current cast. oddly, she is complaining about it hurting and it hasn't been even 3 months yet- she hasn't ever complained before. that said, she is doing all the 3 year-old things she likes to do- so it's not getting in the way- and she is not complaining all the time. dr. khoury recommended the providence brace for nadia as her " step down " from casting. dr. emans is our local doc. we just assumed we would stay with him. do you have any thoughts about it? we were planning on using tom colburn as the orthotist. best, abigail --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Guest guest
hi abigail! it's great to hear from you. it seems like all of us boston folks don't talk much anymore. i guess real life has intruded in. i know that you are busy with a new little one and work. here goes some of my rambling -- i really like the providence brace as a hard brace option since it is only worn at night BUT i guess i was worried about the psychological effects of if the curve ever progressed again, then more than likely the child would have to go back to full-time brace wear. i think that going from part-time to full-time would be very, very difficult. of course, if the curve is low enough after casting, then you would assume that the brace worn would be temporary anyway (as described in mehta's paper). as for orthos, if you are familiar with dr. emans than by all means stay with him. although isn't tom colburn at tufts? why not go to the ortho at tufts? i know that dr. goldberg has retired. have you met his replacement? my husband and i debated about going to tufts instead of children's since dr. goldberg helped us when lucas' cast cracked, but since dr. hresko did the stapling, we decided he was a better person to have locally if we ever need to go down that road. deshea > > thanks for sharing your experience. so good to know the options out there. we are about to embark on the bracing journey. just waiting to outgrow nadia's current cast. oddly, she is complaining about it hurting and it hasn't been even 3 months yet- she hasn't ever complained before. that said, she is doing all the 3 year-old things she likes to do- so it's not getting in the way- and she is not complaining all the time. dr. khoury recommended the providence brace for nadia as her " step down " from casting. dr. emans is our local doc. we just assumed we would stay with him. do you have any thoughts about it? we were planning on using tom colburn as the orthotist. best, abigail > > --------------------------------- > Never miss a thing. Guest guest
hi deshea, can you believe i am only now catching up on emails?! thanks for writing back. it would be nice to catch up more often. i know we tried to arrange the greater boston area families. let's try to make that happen! do you think further correction would be possible in the providence? not knowing what it is like to be in the tlso, i can only imagine how hard it would be to go from night to all day. that said, you are right, i think dr. k's plan is that nadia would only be in the brace shortterm, like in mehta's paper. except he wanted to use the providence instead of the " mehta-cast " . glad to hear lucas is doing so well. best, abigail --------------------------------- Never miss a thing.
