Folks:

Does anyone know the oldest person to be able to do their age in reps of

pull-ups? I think I recall that the record for pull-ups was 78, but that was

years ago and I believe it was held by a 20-something gymnast.

I am 50 years old and can usually do 20 or 21 pull-ups but I'll bet there are

many people my age who can come close to doing their age.

Best,

Bob:

Pullups are palms facing away (overhand grip of bar), chinups are palms

facing you (underhand grip of bar) and are generally considered to be easier.

Now you have given me something to take on as a challenge. I don't do that well

on pull-ups;

you've got me beat (so far). On my birthdays, I do the amount of my years in

something.

On my 73rd birthday, it was arms day and my trainer had me do a drop set of 73

curls.

On my 74th birthday, it was legs day and my trainer had me do 74 reps (some drop

sets) of

all the legs exercises followed by a total of 74 minutes on the bike and stairs.

I did 75 of each

to give me " one to grow on " . My 75th birthday is coming up in March and I will

use that

number for my reps then. Heaven help me if it happens to be the day for chin

ups!

I think the winner is Jack La Lanne... he's 86 now, but I recall him

doing 1000 push ups AND 1000 chin ups on national TV a few decades ago.

[Continuously? Or the usual method of having many breaks between series

of reps? Of course, Jack's amazing achievements at any age are most impressive

and

laudable, but do let's put them into accurate perspective. Mel Siff]

TODAY! 9/26/02

Happy Birthday Jack!

When you say pull-up are you talking about palms facing away from the body? Or

are you

asking about palms facing toward the body which I always called chin-ups and

which I can

do a lot more of?
