Guest guest
This sounds very similar to what my husband did in the past for 's cast. He has every tool in the world so when 's casts would get too tight he would go to trimming. Especially if it was getting close to time for the cast to come off. We then would just cover those areas with moleskin. We even trimmed around the tummy area once because it was SO tight. It gave some comfort and he was able to make it to the next cast change. Tasha dmcmow wrote: Hi Everyone I'm not an expert on this but this definatly works for us. Dylans first 2 casts we had a problem with rubbing and moisture. The last 4 casts I have used it on all of them. When Mike Pond in SCL came to do the petaling there I told him to not bother. I explained to him what I do and I will be taking a roll with me when we go back on March 4. The first 2 casts would literally rub his skin raw. I had to go back and get it trimmed then petaled and taped. Not anymore, I watched them trim it so now I just do it myself. I use a pair of offset tin snips to trim it. The offset type are better because the bottom blade is spoon shaped and easy to slide under the cast. I trim the cast 1/4 " to 1/2 " inch only where its rubbing. Then I use a Closed cell Medium density neoprene foam tape . A company a friend of mine sells this stuff. It comes in a roll, adheisive on the back. I use 1/8 " x 2 " and 1/4 " x 3/4 " it actually forms to the contours of the cast. They come in 50' rolls so one roll will do alot of casts. I cut a small length 6 " or so with a pair of scissors tuck it a little under the cast fold it over, done. I use this neoprene on all of the edges of the cast. It is actually easier to use than tape. Now we have no issues with rubbing and it absorbes the shock if he happens to pinch his skin against something. It's also water resistant so I use it all around the bottom of his cast no more urine problems. It washes easily with soap and water. After a month I take the neoprene off and replace it's very easy to do. I'm not an expert on this but this definatly works for us. I will take a couple of pictures of his cast this weekend and post them. All the best Darrell --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Guest guest
Hello Tasha We used mole skin on Dylans first 2 casts the Dr.s here trimmed and applied the mole skin. It worked soso but it got dirty and when we tried to wash it would peal and ball up and hold moisture. Neoprene is soft and has a memory think of a Wet suit or Dry suit. I water ski so I have both Closed cell neoprene is Dry, Open cell neoprene wet. I can buy this at most inndustrial supply stores I think even Home Depot sells it. Its like $20.00 bucks a 50' roll. If it works for you great if not put it under your furniture legs or weatherstip your doors and windows you will never lose. I bet your kids would be happy it makes for a great Frisbee too. Check it out type in Closed cell neoprene. Darrell Hi Everyone > I'm not an expert on this but this definatly works for us. > Dylans first 2 casts we had a problem with rubbing and moisture. Guest guest
Ok I posted some pictures of Dylan in his cast with the neoprene on it. Look for Dylan M. and tell me what you think. Its the first time I had to put it around his arms because the other casts were below under his arms. You just peel off the back and press it on it molds right to the cast its great stuff. Hope this helps Darrell Hi > Everyone > > I'm not an expert on this but this definatly works for us. > > Dylans first 2 casts we had a problem with rubbing and moisture. > The > > last 4 casts I have used it on all of them. Guest guest
Darrell, Thanks for posting pictures--your idea sounds very helpful. I think we will try this, especially at the top under the armpits where the padding has worn down so much already. Also, what a total cutie Dylan is! , Mommy to Todd Re: I would recommend this product for any cast. Ok I posted some pictures of Dylan in his cast with the neoprene on it. Guest guest
Thanks I hope this helps a bit it really works for us. I would like to get it put on when Dylan's still out it would be much easier. I will take a couple rolls with me to SLC when we go March 4. All the best to you and Todd. Guest guest
Darrell - Can you tell me the brand name of the tape? I sent my husband to our local Home Depot but he was not able to find any. I am just wondering if I can find it somewhere online. Braden got his cast put on Tuesday and we just returned home yesterday and I would love to get the bottom edges sealed with this so that I don't have to worry as much about diaper leakage. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Miranda Gald everything went ok. It's a great place I'm looking forward to going back. If you search Closed Cell Neoprene most of those companies sell it. You could call and try and find a distributor near you. Also Acoustic supply or industrial supply carries it. I know a distributor here and they buy it from a manufacturer in California. Good Luck I hope you find it.
