Guest guest
I had not heard of that....great idea =) I'm sure it does feel good to Noah! wrote: Hi Everyone, All this talk about skin irritations got me thinking. I don't think I've ever seen anyone post about " flossing " before. We stimulate Noah's skin every night before bed by flossing. It's something that Mike Pond in SLC showed us upon getting Noah's 1st cast. You simply pull his cast undershirt down at the bottom and then pull it at the rib cutout in the back. You can also then pull it at the top by his neck. You just gently move the shirt back and forth (in a flossing motion) so that it's rubbing his skin underneath the cast. He told us to do it 2x a day to stimulate his skin. As you know, the skin underneath the cast doesn't get touched for months at a time - by flossing it's like it's getting touched. Noah loves when we do it. We do it every night before bed. It helps relax him too. ~ --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
mentioned a while ago that sometimes she used a pair of nylons to clean out the back of the cast. This might be a good idea to floss with the nylons, too. S
Guest guest
, This sounds great, thanks for posting it! It's the first I've heard of doing it, but it seems so nice. I want to try. Would you tell me if Noah's undershirt is loose, or is it attached to the cast? Todd's is pulled very taut, then taped to the outside of the cast over some padding at the edges of the cast. It seems just about too taut to move at all. It is cut out at the cast cutouts so the skin there is exposed. I've seem some pictures of casts with the undershirt not cut away, so just wondering if Todd's is similar to Noah's. How much do you pull the shirt? Do we have to be careful about stretching it too much? Thanks, , Mommy to Todd Helpful Tip - Flossing Hi Everyone, All this talk about skin irritations got me thinking. Guest guest
Hi I think the T-shirt thing is great its vary stretchy. We can stretch it to Dylan's knees. Then pull it back up through his tummy he loves it. The bottom hangs out of the cast about 4 " but it streches easliy a foot. The 4 " that hangs out we just fold up on the cast. I never thought of it flossing more getting rid of itches but thats a great name for it. The T-shirt is great you can pull it down wash it dry it then pull it back up. Its great to keep him a little cleaner. Maybe SLC is the only one that uses this type of t-shirt. I would say I like it. Dylan never had a t-shirt in his other casts So this is a plus. Guest guest
I think that's the standard cast shirt (and subsequent brace shirt). It's made by Knit-Rite, if memory serves. Apparently one of the hospitals uses an antimicrobial type of shirt, too, which is really cool. However, during the petaling process our hospital cuts the shirt apart and rolls it up over the edges of the cast. So, the shirt is a piece of the cast now almost - like a bottom layer - versus being a shirt underneath it. I did find that when Jack had a stomach virus and his diaper was leaking repeatedly, I could pull the tape off and stretch the shirt out more to cut off that piece, then tape it back down. Speaking of tape - I'd love to see pictures of the neoprene. Sandi
Guest guest
Hi , Noah's undershirt is loose. We do not pedal or tape it up and his skin is not exposed in the cut-outs. So the shirt is able to move easily when pulled. The only exception is we have cut open his stomach and pedaled the shirt so that his belly is exposed. We did this in the last 2 casts mainly because he was upset that " he didn't have a belly button. " LOL But even with the belly cut-out now open the back flossing still works well. I don't think you need to worry about pulling it too much. The shirt is very stretchy. I wouldn't pull on yours though if it's taped/pedaled up. Perhaps just consider leaving it loose in the next cast. ~ > > , > This sounds great, thanks for posting it! It's the first I've heard of doing it, but it seems so nice. Guest guest
Ours is taped to the cast but it is still so stretchy that I do the " flossing " without untaping it. I Just grab into the cast a bit and pull. ________________________________ From: infantile_scoliosis [mailto:infantile_scoliosis ] On Behalf Of *\o/* San *\o/* Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2008 10:04 AM To: infantile_scoliosis Subject: Re: Re: Helpful Tip - Flossing I think that's the standard cast shirt (and subsequent brace shirt).
