But they get done, one way or the other and if they don't it's not the end of the world. You can only do so much.Take it one step at a time.maybe then it won't seem quite so daunting.I think we all go through it. Guest guest
Becky, Hi there............... I can relate as I have been there done that and have felt like you do and still do at times. I have three children and our youngest is 18 is in college this year and lives in a dorm. Thankgoodness! LOL But when I fell ill with RA I had my youngest graduating from high school and my oldest graduating from college and our son in between going to college. Needless to say things were hectic at our house and I was so sick due to RA that I could barely do things that needed to be done. Hang in there and things will get better. My mother has always told me behind the darkest cloud is a rainbow. I have found that to be true in my life. Things will slow down a bit when they graduate from high school and go off to college. Guest guest
Judi, If your plan would only work here......... Noreen [ ] Re: Overwhelmed Dear Becky, I certainly understand how you feel. While I don't have any children to care for, it sometimes feel like I still do have to do all the thinking and remembering. My husband is really good, helps a lot, very supportive, but still was expecting his dinner on Mondays when I work, the only day I work. I finally had to say that I am NOT cooking or doing anything around the house on Mondays. If he wants to eat, he either has to cook it, or kill it and bring it home, I am coming home and planting my butt on the couch and that's it! The first week he didn't quite " get it " and he did fix dinner, but left the dirty dishes. When they were still there at bed time, I yawned, started up the stairs and casually reminded him that they wouldn't put themselves into the dishwasher. Since then, Mondays have gone much better, and since he is " dishwasher challenged " he usually goes and gets something for us to eat. You may have to go on strike, your kids and husband are well able to cope for themselves, and they'd better realize that Mom needs all her spoons to get through each day. Can you schedule one day just for yourself, and tell them that this is your day, and that they are on their own? I think my family finally realized how hard things had become for me recently when I had a few days when I could not go up and down stairs from bedroom to living room without help and it's amazing just how much more understanding they are. Our families just get so used to us being pillars of strength, they can't grasp it when we're not. Guest guest
Day one has gone well with " the plan " ! My daughter came home from school and made Hamburger Helper for everyone. The 16 year old brat child made home made chocolate chip cookies! I had to go to a class tonight and came home to everything done, laundry put away, kitchen clean, lunches made. I like the plan! I give it 2-3 days before they start slacking off....................... Becky [ ] Re: Overwhelmed Dear Becky, I certainly understand how you feel. Guest guest
Thanks, gives me a little encouragement that this might be the right path. Tonight at my class a friend who has 3 grown daughters and now teen grandchildren told me this is how it was in her house. She said she doesn't have empty nest syndrome because now she's raising a few grandkids. I guess misery loves company but it was good to find out she did the same things and felt the same way. Guest guest
Dear Becky, when you discribed the chores they all sound really reasonable. Once they go off to college or get a plpace of their own, they'll even have to do their own laundry. I am also none too surprised that you are feeling a little guilty for letting them work. I feel perpetually overwhelmed-usually with housework or bills-my husband is great but I put high expectations on myself and then can't meet them and get upset. I think all of us with these miserable diseases do the same. Have you tried to delegate a little? I used to think that people just automatically knew what needed to be done and would get upset when they didn't do it but sometimes you just have to ask-and it works!!!! Guest guest
Hi Becky..... I think alot of men are like that tho as well as our kids. NO one can seem to do anything w/o being told. Sometimes I just have to remember its a proven fact: Men dont think like us! And the kids..they'd rather walk over things then pick them up. I have that here to and sometimes I make a list for everyone...that cuts down on alot of 'you didnt tell me to'. I know where your coming from....just remember on thing ~ the dust bunnies will be there tomorrow too Dont get too stressed over housework. Give them all chores to do and write it down for them if you need to. Everyone should be contributing. Hang in there.......spring is on the way! The sunshine will make us feel better. We are getting bit by the camping bug---lol Take care, Re: [ ] Overwhelmed Becky, Oh my goodness, you are not alone. Guest guest
maybe they'll do their own laundry. My 23 year old son has been bringing home his laundry every weekend. Like a fool I was doing it. Finally two weeks ago, I said, this is it. I'm tired and don't want to spend the whole weekend doing your laundry. You do it. And he has been. Amazing. Guest guest
YES!!! JOnah is 19 months with tort, plagio and low tone. We started treatments at 1 month and is still going strong with an average of 5 appts/week, two of which are 45-1 hour each way. Just thinking about being done, or at least cutting back makes me giddy. Guest guest
Hi group, I'm posting to Gretchen and all of you for advice and some needed understanding I guess. I know that CMT is a slowly progressive disorder, but why does it seem that in one very short year (I was diagnosed one year ago this month) my body has said NOPE Not gonna do that anymore?. I hope you don't mind me venting I guess is a good way of putting it but I really feel like nobody else understands where I'm coming from. Today I went for groceries after church and I honestly didn't think I was going to make it to the checkout line. I feel that exhausted. I have been on overtime at my job since August. I've been able to cut the OT down to 9 hours a week with 6 of those hours being mandatory Saturday hours. My school work has suffered tremendously this year. I have failed tests and had to take retests because I am too tired to study and when I do I guess I am just not comprehending the work (I take classes on line not in a class room). I really don't think I will be able to finish this semesters work. I still have the pain in my right foot, even after the surgery this past June and now my left foot is getting the numbness and some pain but not as bad as the right yet. Today I noticed that my right arm was so weak I felt like I couldn't raise it up to put it on my steering wheel. I attribute this to just pure exhaustion. By now you're asking what is my point right? I guess I'm just lost right now. I wanted to talk to my boyfriend but he seems to forget about my need to talk and when we do he just says 'you're tired I know take a nap'. My parents say 'I am so sorry but you have to keep going because you need a paycheck and insurance'. My friends don't or can't understand and I feel like I make them uncomfortable. It's like they are saying hey I have my own problems without saying the actual words. In a nutshell I don't know what to do. I don't know how to get people to understand that I'm not just tired, I'm physically exhausted, and becoming emotionally drained with worry because I'm physically exhausted. I want to tell my employer that the overtime is too much for me, heck it's getting to the point that a full time work week is too much. That makes me depressed because I have worked hard to get where I am at and I love my job. My folks are right I do need a paycheck but my body is saying if you don't give me some rest I'm not going to work for you anymore. I want to tell my doctor I need help but he can't even document my medical records correctly so I know getting help with or from him is hopeless. I have an appointment in March to see a new doctor. How do I get everyone in my circle to realize how serious CMT can drain and overwhelm you? How can I keep going when I can't even think straight at the end of the day because I'm so tired. Is it time to give up school or work or both. How do you know when enough is enough? And who can/should I be talking to to get my medical care on track. I mean I would love my doctor to talk to my employer, school and my family and friends and get everyone on the same page. I'm sorry this became a book but I don't know what to do. I am too tired to do anything but want to do so much. It's so frustrating, depressing, aggravating, and any other adjective ending with 'ing'. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Elaina
Guest guest
Dear Elaina, I can relate to what all you are going through right now. I'm on my way to see someone to help me with vocational skills (by the way, I " m not sure what exactly it is that he does, but a wonderful woman in Health and Human Services gave me his number). I've, like you guys, have been going through all the so-called " stages " of the depression, money, not working (not BEING ABLE TO WORK AT ALL). I'm tired of having the crying jags, which always happen at the doctors offices, but one thing I've learned is there are so many nice people out there, alot of jerks, but mainly nice, and if I don't get going....which in itself is hard, nothing will happen. It's been 3 months since I " ve started the paperwork phase, and I HATE paperwork and am not good at it. One of the things I was going to say is, look around for help from different services in your town. I was too embarrassed to go to the church for food, the woman let me come to her office and gave me 2 boxes. I've worked since I was 14 and now cant'. And being a bartender, always had money in my pocket, NO MORE...(lol) I was denied food stamps once and also my initial SS application, so I had to keep working..to the point that I hurt my body worse. It makes me mad we have to get worse before we can get better. That doesn't make any sense. I've got tons on this topic, but have to go. Keep your head up and things will get better. I am into Olsteen right now. I've got a day by day calendar and each day it says something to get your spirits up and it works for me. Give it a try. I believe in God and also believe in happy thoughts. If you think something is going to go wrong, it will. Years ago, about 6, I entered a contest for my daughter to get a pre-paid Florida scholarship, and everyday I must have filled out 20 entries and kept telling myself I was going to win. I DID. I thing positive thinking works. (Also won a Mustang Convertible, trips, etc.....anyone that wants to try it let me know....sorry didn't mean to get off track, but we can use our hands and it's something to look forward to) Take care,
Guest guest
Hi - I was about to call the San Diego Regional Center this week. My 7 yr old was diagnosed with Aspergers in Aug. by a child psych and when I learned that soon Aspergers will be lumped under the Autism label I asked about that when I went to Compass Family Center for resources. Our counselor told us that the Regional Center will indeed want something that states Autism - not Aspergers so we could use the school IEP report which says Autism. So it sounds like the REgional Center does their own eval - gosh, I'm just not sure I want to put my son through that again - especially if they probably won't consider him severe enough to qualify him. It's been back to back evals since Aug. Do you think it's a waste of time? Especially with all the budget cuts? > > > I am just frustrated!!! My 8 yr son was dx July 2010 with HFA. Guest guest
It took seven months for them to do the assessment, it started with an initial meeting with us and our son for about an hour, observation of him at school and an hour and half Autism assessment. The last session was done two weeks ago. Applying will give you appeal rights and the case can be redetermined down the road. I don't think it's a waste of time, even when it's frustrating we have to keep fighting for our kids. Wishing you all the best!! Guest guest
The Children's Health Council is the best! We drive 45 miles one way just to go there. They are the nicest, friendliest people and actually understand and help our kids out. We spent years at different psychiatrists that were expensive and useless. We were disqualified from san andreas too. They only deal with autistic kids, not aspergers kids. good luckDeborahSycamore Art StudiosSycamore Art SchoolDeborah GustlinGraphic & Web DesignArt classes for K-12www.sycamoreartstudios.comwww.sycamoreartschool.comHome: 408-710-0892 Business: 408-710-6070From: Yemeseratch Girma <yemieg@...> Sent: Sat, March 5, 2011 9:39:32 PMSubject: Re: ( ) Overwhelmed Thanks Pam and Debra.
