Guest guest
I've never heard of this side effect, although you could ask your doctor whether it could be one. More likely though, is that it is another compulsion popping up. My daughter spent half of the last school year worrying about whether she could see the board well enough - and there was lots of blinking and squinting going on along with it. It could also be a tic though. Our psychologist told us that most people have explanations for their tics - it's just the way the brain works. My daughter said for a long time that she was doing her mouth stretching thing because her lips were catching on her braces. I believed that for about six months until her psychiatrist pointed out that it was a tic. Her explanation was kind of like a way to justify it to herself. Guest guest
Some meds make you thirsty-if they dry out your throat, I guess they could dry out your eyes. Does he drink alot of water? Zoloft made my child incredible nauseous. Now she is on Celexa. No side affects. Ellen
Guest guest
when i did a search on google of the words *zoloft blinking squinting* it comes up with the blinking and squinting coming up listed as tics. maybe do a similar search and see if anything rings a bell with you? the other thing you might want to consider, if it is ultimately a side effect is that the slower you go up and the lower you start the less problem you will probably have with the zoloft...my son is 11 and started with the liquid so he could start at 10mg...and stayed there for aobut 2 to 3 weeks and went up much slower than 25 mg at a time..... Eye blinking and squinting My 9 year old son has just begun taking Zoloft and about three weeks into the medication he is complaining that his eyes feel sticky and he constantly blinks and squints. It's so noticeable that his third grade teachers have asked him about it. He started on 25 mg for 2 weeks and is now on 50 mg. Could this be a side effect of the Zoloft or is it just another compulsion popping up?
Guest guest
Hi there, this could be a side effect to the Zoloft increase, this could be a tic (eyes are common sites of tics) or this could be some coincidental physical problem, such as--does he have allergies? Ragweed is high in my area right now. You could try some artificial tears or other eye drops for a bit to see if that helps. My daughter's psych told me that if a kid has a propensity for ticcing (which you may not have know about to this point), this can be " unmasked " by an SSRI. My daughter began ticcing when we switched from Prozac to Luvox. These persisted and when she began a blinking tic, this bothered her so much that her doctor put her on a low dose of Risperdal. That pretty much killed the tics...later we determined Luvox didn't do much of anything for her OCD symptoms and moved on to Zoloft, but kept the Risperdal. It does wonders for ticciness and impulsivity in my daughter. Just some things to ponder. It's very difficult IMO to run these things down definitively...
