Guest guest
I've got one for you, my dr suggested I get those braces for my hands/wrists to protect them when I am doing things, so I wear them to church, so when everyone gets up and shakes hands, people don't wrench me. I still have the same people saying week after week, "Aren't you feeling any better yet? What do you have, carpal tunnel?" That's enough to make me flip out hearing that all the time. Face it, people can be ignorant and that's all their is to it. It's sort of like when you see someone with a cast on their foot and you hear people saying, "What happened? Break your foot?" I mean really, use your head, right? ~yellow dancer <yellowplugempress@...> wrote: you could get a ribbon, a cap or a scarf that is tasteful but that everyone could easily notice just by looking at you. choose a color (i like green) and then let them know when they see that, that you're not having the best day, or that you're coming on a flare up and you need some space and maybe a little extra consideration. if they have a clue, it should work love to you all yellowjohn no_way <kentuckycowboy1@...> wrote: scorn720 <scorn720@...> wrote: what do you do when you have a realy bad day of pain and fatigue and no one understands they expect you to be able to do everything they expect you to do everyday they just don't understand sherrieHi there , i'm john im haveing a real bad time now allso , and would really like to have an answer to that question allso ? Guest guest
, I tried Voltaren for a while and it did not help me with inflammation. After trying several, I had more luck with Lodine XL. It is one of the older anti-inflammatories that I read is a bit easier on the stomach. I do hope you get some relief. Can you sleep at night or is there too much pain?? They must help you get some rest somehow. I have not really told people at work I have RA, but they have obviously figured out that something isn't right. Since I have had to take off some time to deal with a flare, I've decided to come out of the closet and start telling people about the disease. It's just easier than always saying "I have trouble with my foot." or "I kicked my husband too hard last night." or "yeah, I twisted it skydiving." (you'd be surprised how many people actually fell for that one.) I guess the main thing is to keep your sense of humor and know that usually people ask because they care and are concerned, not because they are boneheads. gloria

Guest guest
Hi Sherri. I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I have been there MANY times before. Depending on which joints are affected (is it in your hands only, feet only or is it involving your entire body?), you might want to try a hot hot hot bath, or use a parafin (hot wax) treatment (Homedics makes a good hot wax machine, and it is not very expensive...comes with all the wax and everything to get started.... GOOD christmas gift idea for someone to get you!) Those feel WONDERFUL, and sooth your hands/feet joints. They also make your skin really soft. Are you on any anti inflamatories? Do they help? Hope these ideas help... Guest guest
Here's a link to a site where you can check drug interactions to see if any of the common pain relievers will have problems with any of your other medications. You can also check with a pharmacist because they specialize in medicines and usually know more about them than doctors do. I usually try to keep a small supply of Prednisone on hand because that is a strong anti-inflammatiory that often gives quick relief for a flare. Guest guest
Sherrie: A simple remedy might help if your stomach can handle aspirin. Try two full strength aspirins every four hours and see if that helps. Guest guest
I find that using ice to numb the area helps immediately. If there is no inflammation, then heat works. Get out the heating pad and relax. Try and distract yourself with a good movie, reading or something you enjoy doing. Movies always help me get out of myself. Guest guest
Hi Sherrie, When I have a " flair " as I call them, a really intense flair of pain in an isolated area, I knock it out with either a steriod pack & /or hydrocodone.. a painreliever/narcotic. I only do this in those dire times where it's unbearable but it works and at least for me those times are luckily few & far between. My Dr. lets me keep a perscription of the painrelievers at all times for the times I need it. AND don't get me wrong, I only use them when I feel it's absolutely necessary because I know it can become habit forming if used / abused often. But it does knock out the pain until the steroid /meds relieve the inflammation. I think I've had to do that twice in the past year but it's reasurring for me to know I have the pills for when the morning (or night) comes when I wake up unable to move. Hope that helps

Guest guest
hives sound like a reaction to one of the drugs? have you tried Celebrex? there are so many different alternatives for the pain. your doctor should be able to give you some samples(that the drug companies give them) for free until you find one that works for you. for example, before they pulled Vioxx, it worked really well for me but did nothing for my dad.Ronnie <rhondamccardell@...> wrote: Im in a flare right now.
