Guest guest
I think may have a whole page about the thing, but essentially don't hold it too tight, don't lock your elbows and hold it about chest high. 190 with 29.3% body fat means 135ish of bone and muscle and 55 other pounds. Guest guest
Right, so that's 55 lbs. of fat. But I don't want to lose that much or I would be at 0% or dead. LOL! I had thought I might need to get down as low as 140 but I now am thinking that would be too low unless I lose significant amounts of muscle, which may happen--who knows. I figure if I were able to lose 30-35 lbs. of fat I would be about right for my goals. I was thinking more like 45. The less weight I HAVE to lose the less daunting the journey. Ha! Here's something though, my sons measure at less than 9%! They are amazingly fit and very athletic, and at their age the moron woudln't allow me to put " athlete " . But they really ARE athletes. That would almost " seem " too low for a 12 year old and a 14 year old, but anybody can look at these guys and know they are in perfect health. Interesting! And my daughter, who does not look fat but is at that 10 year old " baby fat " stage is right at 29%. Her BMI said normal though. She looks very normal. So I'm not concerned. It's just funny to take all these readings. LOL K... > > Well, the moron, er omron arrived in the mail! I am always so nervous > > getting a new " reading " on the fitness gizmos. Guest guest
The numbers that you're looking at right now are just estimates, really wild estimate that will fluctuate enormously. Once you reach a good weight for your height and drop your body fat below 20-25%, the fat weight vs. lean weight numbers might actually start to mean something. Right now they're going to be goofy, and you WILL lose lean mass, maybe a lot of it. Remember that lean mass isn't just muscle. It's anything in your body that's not fat - water, muscle, bone, skin, organs, hair, teeth, dental fillings, stomach contents - all lean mass. Get a haircut and you lose lean mass, drop some PMS bloat and you lose lean mass, calculate your body fat with a different method and you lose lean mass. By the time you get down to where you want to be, you may only have 115-120 pounds of lean mass and 135-145 could be a perfectly reasonable body weight. Or, who knows, maybe you'll have 135 pounds of lean mass and weigh 160. Keep eating right and training hard and the numbers will work themselves out. > > Right, so that's 55 lbs. of fat. Guest guest
Thanks , Okay, I'll just take it day by day. I'm really very happy I wasn't 35% on the moron. 29% wasn't as scary to me. I'm a size 12 now, but I would be happy at a size seven. I've always thought that with my muscle now I might be able to look good at 150. At one point in my life I was 128 with zero muscle and fit a size 6. I was skinny but had more cellulite on my butt than I do now. That is what muscle can do. Can you believe it? As long as the moron shows a downward trend I'll be content. K... > > > > Right, so that's 55 lbs. of fat. But I don't want to lose that much > > or I would be at 0% or dead. LOL! Let me butt in here and give you a link to keep handy to calculate your lean to fat ratio plus you can see after what you really lost over scale pounds: http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/math.html And there is also at the bottom of the page that popular replica pic of how much less space 1lb muscle takes up compared to 1lb fat. :-) > Right now they're going to be goofy, and you WILL lose lean > mass, maybe a lot of it. Remember that your body is reshaping itself. As you lose bodyfat, you also lose lots of water weight (the bloat!), your skin 'condenses' (hopefully!), and everything that isnt fat has to morphdown a bit to compact itself, so yes you will lose some lean weight. The object of using the calculation up above is to ensure that you stay on the right track of losing more of the fat while losing less lean. For example someone may lose say 30lbs scale weight but may find out that 21lbs of that was fat and 9lbs was lean weight which is totally ok - see the fat ratio is higher! So keeping the lean loss to a minimum (especially as one gets closer to ones goals, and the fat higher, you will always know you are on the right downward spiral! joni ----------------------------------------------------- *Lift well, Eat less, Walk fast, Live long*
