Guest guest
It's not the emu oil that concerns me here, I would be VERY leery of adding DMSO to any handcrafted products, even for my own use (and I've had experience with it in treating a dog with a terminal condition under a vet's direction). DMSO is a VERY powerful solvent and it is capable of transporting many substances through all layers of the skin and into the bloodstream -- toxic or otherwise. This is not a chemical to be used lightly or without a lot of research and careful handling. Here's information more information on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfoxide Be careful out there! I have read good and bad about it, but want to try some for me, is it liquid or powder? I would be careful using penetrating oils and msm dmso with a fragrance oil, it take 90 seconds for anything mixed with emu oil to go 3 layers deep, not sure I want F.O. imbedded its enough of an addiction just smelling it. DMSO (this will help the skin to absorb the good stuff). Then to make is smell good I added a few drops of Jasmin fragrance oil.
Guest guest
Jen, you are absolutely right. When using DMSO you need to make sure you know all the contents that it touches and that every thing is totally clean. It's great stuff but great care must be taken. Thank you for pointing this out. > Main ingredient is coconut oil (it's solid at 72 degrees) about 1/2 > cup. I added about 1 oz. emu oil, 2 teaspoons MSM powder and about 1/2 > oz. I flinched when I first read the reference to DMSO... the skin is designed to be a barrier, to keep things out...for very good reason. Increasing the chemical load on your body by forcing deep absorption is not necessarily a good thing! Guest guest
DMSO has been used by many people both internally and externally for years. NaOH is used to make soap and if you don't do the research on proper use there can be disastrous concequences. Just ask Rosemary. If more people would do research on what Chemo-therapy and radiation does to the body more people would choose other methods for treating cancer. Any how many times have I read about a certain ingredient used because it would allow for better absorption of the skin? There are Yahoo groups for DMSO that will give the needed information to make an informed decision. People there can tell you from personal experience what DMSO has done for them and how to use it. Any ingredient you are not familiar with should be fully researched before use. That only makes sense. If you aren't interested in doing the needed research then don't use the ingredient. But if we don't experiment, research and communicate experiences then there will be nothing new discovered and I believe there are loads of things to learn both good and bad. Isn't that the point of Yahoo groups? > Full agreement with Jen here....
