Guest guest
Kathe, I've been blessed/cursed with the abilities that keep me going. I've built and driven racecars, boats, computers and computer controls for high power electrics, designed and built my house and everything in it except the water well, trailers for all occasions, driven a bigger truck than Ken ever saw, flew planes, and a lot of other things. If I weren't able to do these things, I think I'd go nuts. It costs so much to have things done that the only thing I believe is reasonable for most of us is to rent an apartment so we wouldn't have to worry about things. It also helps that I'm a tightwad. The battery for the trike I needed was $45 and only a 3 month warranty. I bought a car battery for $40 with a 7 year warranty and wired it in myself, in a different place because it's bigger, but it should last me until I can't ride any more. There's a drawing that shows a stork-type bird with a frog in it's mouth, and the frog's hands were choking the bird. The caption says, " Don't EVER give up! " That's one I live by, and so should you. Don't give up the horses, just invent another way to ride when necessary. Oh yeah, tomorrow, I'm going to get my glasses fixed, using the trike and scooter to get there. And, I fixed the tractor. Y'all keep your fingers crossed. Guest guest
Ken, the 'deal' is still on, as long as you're not in a really big hurry. I have a lot of irons in the fire for today, but tomorrow may be more calm, so I'll try to call you then. I've always been told that God will never give you more than you can carry, but sometimes I wonder . Anybody that has a burden seems to handle it pretty well, some of us just need it to gripe about when nothing else is happening. LOL Remember, everything that doesn't get worse, will get better or stay the same. Hang in there. Guest guest
Bonnie, I live about half way between Dallas and Shreveport. In the beginning, I tried to continue doing what I could, but when I couldn't climb out of bed, I had to give it up. I tried share-croppers a couple of times, but both stole crops and equipment, and I never saw them again. One was a " good " friend. In 1967, I bought an extremely rare 1957 Thunderbird for my wife. Later that year, we took my mother riding around the Houston-Galveston-Pt Arthur area. We had the top off, and it was the first time Mom had been in a convertible. Her knees got sunburned, but she laughed and had a ball, even though her RA was really starting to get vicious. That was a cherished moment for me, and made it really hard when I had to sell that car to help pay for doctors and meds in 1994. There have been lots of setbacks, but they just changed my priorities and made me less stubborn. This RA could be considered a good thing because it did change my outlook, but it could have been a little more subtle, don't you think? Houseplants?? I can and have killed plastic plants! Seriously, if any of you are in the area and want some blueberries, come and pick all you can carry. They are still growing and producing but just falling on the ground. Waste not, want not. Guest guest
Bonnie Sue, I always came out with red bugs too. OOOOh those critters but I sure did like the berries. Actually in those days food was scarce and I would eat anything I could pick off vine, bush or tree. I still like to pick stuff but don't have much opportunity to. BVan (Betty) Blueberries oh my I remember as a kid coming up this way in August that is when the blueberries and huckleberries ripen and we go into the woods and pick them with milk containers placed around out necks with cord...we came out of the woods full of blue/huckle berries all over us and having a wonderful time we also make jam and pies enough for the fall and winter memories are good as long as we pick the good ones smile my new friend you may not be farming in one sense but you are surely developing something even more precious CHILDREN...
