Guest guest
Oh, also, I am lactating. Does anyone know how to calculate bodyfat while in this state? Perhaps, I just have to go on how my jeans fit and leave it at that! Cori Hyland wrote: I would like to know if anyone has found a calculator that would take into account that I have had four kids and the last one was 8 months ago. I don't think that the calculator was right for me. I have always been think waisted (even when I weighed 103 lbs) and after a number of kids, I really have no waist. Perhaps I need to buy a caliper and figure it out myself. Has anyone had experience with this? Melinda Payne wrote: Thanks Jami!!! ~hee~ Talk about accountability! That's what I need, though. I've come to the " humble acceptance " that my body isn't going to just fix itself back into a size 9 (my smallest as an adult - 18 years ago). I'll post more later...at work now. Shhhhhh. re: Newbie Here Here are my tips: 1. Get the real BFL, read cover to cover. Re-read Crossing the Abyss. 2. Write out your overall goals. 3. Measure anything you can get a measuring tape around. Keep track in some spreadsheet or something. Weight, Height, arms (upper/lower), chest, waist, hips, thighs, knees, calves, anything else you can think of. Take pics: front back and sides. These are hard things at first but later you will come to peace with them as a starting point and you will be so happy to see your results. 4. Estimate your beginning bodyfat by using an online tool: http://www.biofitness.com/abodyfat.html (is a decent one) 5. Figure out your meals and workouts for the week: when/what/etc. Plan to succeed. 6. Do it. Don't think much about it, just do it. It's hard at first because it's new. Consider slip ups as part of learning and keep going. Don't look back for 12 full weeks. Post any concerns here. Check measurements at some interval, write it on your calendar as part of your plan. Re-read your goals every night before bed and again in the morning upon waking. Do a " lessons learned " each week - what you did well, what you can improve on, and ideas for improvement. You will learn a lot in 12 weeks. Tell us how well you did. I expect to see your results posted no later than 3/30. I'm going to email you if I don't see your post. Better yet, what's your home number? I'm going to call you too. ;-) Just teasing. But really, we want to hear from you buy 3/30 come hell or highwater. Pick yourself up everytime you think you want to stop and say, I will keep going so I can tell Jami how well I did. Guest guest
Yeah, that's the simplest. I'm not sure about the guide. I calculate my bodyfat by this calculator: http://www.he.net/~zone/prothd2.html Just so long as you are consistent in using the same calculator, you can at least chart the trends although it may not be exact. Recently, I did a caliper test and an electronic gizmo at the gym, and both gave me just the same result as the Navy calculator. As far as nursing, I don't think that will make a big difference, but again, what's important is the trend and not the exact numbers. has some strong opinions about this stuff too, so I'm sure she will weigh in. : ) Best Regards, beth re: Newbie Here Here are my tips: 1. Guest guest
I know all kinds of stuff about body fat testing, but I don't know nothin' bout birthin' no babies. LOL So, I'm not sure how one affects the other. I once tried five different online body fat calculators in a row and got five different readings ranging from 11% to 31%. Several were within a point or two of my real reading (16%), but the ones that were close for me were way off for other people. The online calculators are still useful though because even if the thing is 5% off, it will always be 5% off, and so it's still possible to track a downward trend. Generally, I think calipers are the way to go. Here's a crash course in testing yourself at home: http://skwigg.com/id69.html . > > As far as nursing, I don't think that will make a big difference, but > again, what's important is the trend and not the exact numbers. has > some strong opinions about this stuff too, so I'm sure she will weigh in. : > ) > Best Regards, > beth >

Guest guest
Okay, now that is really over the top. I mean no one wears spandex anymore! (folks, that was a joke, if you didn't know) Really, that Gone with the Wind thing was perfect. I think I am going to get the poster for Christmas, paint bike shorts and beater shirts on everyone, and put it in my weight room to keep me from taking myself too seriously during this venture. Seriously, I'm serious. I need help. I need to not be so afraid of this thing. I think I am actually afraid of being hot lookin'. Perhaps, I have nothing to worry about. Maybe I give myself too much credit, but looking at the pictures on this site, people are moving into the " hottie " classification quite readily and I just don't know if I am ready for that. I'm a homeschooling mom, for gosh sakes! Anyway, I haven't started this thing yet. I am waiting until all the chocolate has mysteriously left the house (hmmm, wonder where it's going). Wish me luck. Guest guest
HI, I'm a homeschooling mom too! When I was between 12-14, I had that chubbiness, and no one ever looked at me except to comment that I was chubby....then I lost it, and lost big....suddenly, people who had never been friendly, were, suddenly guys were noticing me, and I remember feeling angry and had an insight into the human condition - I was the same person, but no one bothered with me when I was thin.....SOOO, as I grew up, I always befriend the heavy one, the unattractive one.....I teach hot yoga and turbo in addition to being homeschool mom and full time ICU nurse......be the example of beauty from the inside out ok? Its ok to be " " hot " " - but make it " " healthy hot " " - and set the example! Don't fear anything....let your motto be, " " I' " m scared of nuthin'' and nobody! " " ....and let your inner beauty come through as people respond to your outer..... And that concludes the sermon of the day....
Guest guest
Cori, About being afraid of being hot looking....I have to admit that that is my problem. I've been overweight most of my adult life, because if I am thin, men just get too annoying and won't listen to what I'm saying. It was a serious problem in my professional life, to me anyway. It's really stupid, but after my recent freakout at the end of my first challenge, I realized that THAT IS the problem. WEll, I'm old now, so even when I get thin I won't attract too much attention. : ) Best Regards, beth Re: Calculator Okay, now that is really over the top. I mean no one wears spandex anymore!
