Question on sweaty laundry

Okay Ladies, I have a BFL-lifestyle-related question - what about all

those sweaty clothes?

My husband gets completely sweaty everyday and I manage the same at

least 3 times a week. I don't want to put the clothes anywhere near

the hamper for fear of 1) the smell and 2) the bacteria I am sure

would grow! I try to consolidate my laundry loads to conserve water

and probably more accurately - to lessen my work load!

So, do ya'll just put them in a sweaty pile next to the laundry

machine or is there a better solution?

Thanks!

I have a hook in the laundry room to hang them up on. If they stay wet they will

fester, and possibly even mildew. If they dry out, you can even wait to wash.

How frequently do you do laundry? With a husband and two kids, I'm doing

laundry every other day if I don't want it to turn into a mountain, so

there's no time for them to start fermenting.

I love this question because I have wondered the same thing...what are

you all doing with the sweaty clothes?

I have put an extra, second, expandable, shower curtain rod in each

bathroom. Mostly they help me with extra damp towels and swimsuits

through the summer. I also have plastic hangers on them which help me

out with my sweaty clothes and the kids extra muddy or pee soaked

stuff I have to rinse before dealing with in the laundry.

There are times on a summer weekend when damp items are REALLY

multiplying.,, My husband is getting sweaty from outside chores, wet

swim suits and towels from a friend's pool, wet/sandy swimsuits and

towels from the beach, plus the workout clothes...I have been known to

hang wet items on hangers from the wheels of bicycles in the garage :)

I don't like to do laundry on the weekends. We'd rather play.

Once items are dry, they can wait a day or two in the hamper before

washing. I have found I like to have lots of workout clothes so I

really only have to wash twice a week to keep up.

I love the BFL housekeeping tips. Seriously. I think I'll get an extra shower

curtain rod tomorrow, it will be perfect for the swimsuits next summer too--and

maybe my husband will hang his smelly stuff on the rod instead of ON TOP of the

shower curtain, which I then must wash because it gets funky from the contact!

I worked with a public health nurse last year for my old job, and she stressed

that bacteria is only growing if things are wet. If they're dry, nothing can

live. That's why alcohol works in that hand stuff. Dries out all the bacteria.

Best Regards,

beth

I do use those extra shower rods. The main bathroom has 2 extras over

the bathtub...

Adults use the top one with hangers for workout gear.

The little kids can drape their drippy stuff on the lower one. The

low one is only 6 inches from the wall, so it doesn't get bumped

during bath time.
