Guest guest
You are doing so fantastic !!!! Glad to see you enjoying running so much!Darcy Today I did 20 flights of stairs at work, but the highlight of my day was my new run! This time I ran with my iPod and the first two podcasts from Podrunner (Thanks, Tess!) and while this music is kind of bland to listen to for listening's sake, while you're running it really does help put you in a rhythmic zone and it did enhance my running experience. I started by Colonel Summer's Park down the street from me on 20th and . I ran North a few blocks to the Lone Fir Cemetery, which mostly has pioneer tombstones from the late 1800's to mid 1900's, but continues to receive new occupants even now! It's named after this huge fir tree on the NW end. I ran the perimeter of the cemetery and I saw a most unusual sight - CHICKENS! And not just regular white ones with red bibs, but fancy ones with feathers on their feet, like slippers! They were running along the side of the fence. Free range at its best! I exited the cemetery and ran North to Pine Street and headed East til I hit Laurelhurst Park, which is in an expensive million dollar home neighborhood. I exited Laurelhurst on the 35th street exit and ran South to , running through Sunnyside School playground and then home. I hit 4 parks on this run and it was very fun! It will be awhile before I get bored of this one! I'm starting to reach a point where I " need " to run. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow unless it's pouring down rain, which is always a possibility in Portland. As nutty as this sounds I feel like a superhero doing it and then there's the high afterwards. It truly is mind altering. Wednesday is my last day subbing at the snobby/disrespectful gym for awhile and then I will be able to go back to doing more videos. Kathy mentioned doing Shape It Up today (way to go, Kathy! I'm scared of that one!) and it made me want to try the other SS workouts that are still in my virgin pile. Okay, off to bed. Hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow! Guest guest
Sounds like a great run, . I'll have to send you some pictures of our town here in south Georgia. We have wild chickens running all over the place because someone back in the 50's or 60's turned them loose in town. Now they are a town mascot of sorts and it's illegal to kill them. Did you know they can fly up into trees and perch there? It was cool when I first moved here, but I'm really sick of having to wash my car everyday because they perch in the tree above it. Guest guest
My DH grew up on a farm and, among other creatures, raised chickens right up to the time we got married (he was living at his parents' house until then and we couldn't afford a house with enough land for chickens ourselves). He didn't have any of the breeds with feathers on their feet when I met him but he took me to our county fair (every year practically for the last 17 now) and showed me all the different breeds of chickens being shown, including some of those and they are really cool looking. His chickens were free range, wandering around the yard, until a neighbor's dog started killing them then he had to put them in a fenced area. He used to sell the eggs at work, $1 for a dozen. I was a suburban girl so the first time I gathered warm eggs from underneath chickens was a HUGE thrill! I have to say though, chickens are among the dumbest animals I have ever seen. I'd drive into the driveway and the chickens would just stand there. I'd literally get out of the car to move them out of the way! I never saw one fly into a tree (like Tonya's note) but I have seen them get decent air. On topic now: I love hearing about your runs! We are finally having some weather in which I would run but we are so busy right now that I can't find the time (unless I give up a P90 workout and being this close to done I'm not doing that). I can relate to the superhero feeling. I get that feeling in a lot of my workouts and can easily imagine would be even more intense out in the open air feeling the wind against you... oooh, I can't wait to get out there. Soon... soon... in the meantime, I'll run vicariously through your postings!
