Guest guest
Funny you should mention this one Donna, I picked it up from a fellow freecycler recently, along with another Kathy (can't remember which one now)! I watched most of it and thought it looked very doable for me and was wondering if it would be challenging enough but figured it could be modified up if necessary. Of course, so often things look easy and end up being much more challenging! You refer to it as not being an older one... did they remake it on DVD? I have a VHS, not sure what year but they're wearing very colorful spandex leotards so I assumed 80s or early 90s. The other one is a straight cardio workout from the same time period. I'll have to look tomorrow (they are in the still cold basement and I'm not going down there tonight). I bet the bosu made it more challenging! I did squats on one at that core training studio Saturday and it was tough! I didn't see the abs part of Fat Burning Breakthrough. I'll need to watch the entire video sometime. How do you do abs on the bosu? Thanks for reminding me that I have Secrets of a Great Upper Body (and Lower Body) on VHS with a cardio workout which I can never remember the name of but really enjoy. I think I need a Kathy week... Monday - Kathy Fat Burning Breakthru on the BOSU/Timesaver Cardio/Stretch Hi Everyone,This morning I did one that Kassia got me thinkingabout - Kathy 's Fat Burning Breakthru. Which isa step/weight circuit type workout. There are two"waves" consisting of gradually more intense stepaerobics followed by upper body weight training. Ifast forwarded through the weight segments since I didweights yesterday and just did the cardio portions ofthe "waves". The choreography is basic (, Ithink you would like this one - straightforwardathletic stuff that you can make more intense bymodifying up) and contains three levels of progressiveintensity. Level 3 I found to be pretty hard so I'mgoing to count this workout as my interval workout forthe week! This one translated well to the BOSU b/c itwas simple choreography and the BOSU was nice tobounce on for the more intensive sections (and tomodify up the lower intensity sections). The balancechallenge also added a new spin to the workout, especially as I got more winded at Level 3.Since this cardio was probably pretty short, I'mguessing each segment of cardio was maybe 15 minutes? Hard to tell - Kathy says each wave is 18 minutes, soI'm not sure how much to subtract for the weightsections - maybe 3-6 minutes....Anyway, since I wanted more cardio I did Workout # 2from Kathy 's Timesaver Cardio workout (2 20minute floor cardio routines). This one is also"interval-ish" in that after each of the four combosshe adds a "cardio blast" (which is basically doingthe combo at a higher intensity). The modifiers forthe higher intensity option were not always visibleand it was hard to figure out what they were doing attimes, so for the most part i just put more into thebasic moves for the cardio blasts. Overall though, even though Kathy shouts a lot in this one, I kind oflike it - easy to follow floor cardio. In both of these workouts Kathy is a bit over the top- some shouting, etc. I wonder why she does this? She didn't do that in her earlier workouts, so Iwonder why she feels the need to do it in her laterones?Anyway, after cardio I went back and did the abs fromFat Burning Breakthru - I did some of the ab work onthe BOSU to make it harder (and it worked). This absection is basically 5 sets of 20 different abexercises - straightforward crunches, obliquecrunches, reverse crunches, bicycles, etc. She does aquick back exercise at the end (extensions).I did the stretching on both Fat Burning Breakthru andTimesaver (the Timesaver stretch is more comprehensiveand slower paced). I figured combined I probably gotmy recommended 10 minutes of stretching in today.Whew! That was a long post!Tomorrow is strength (and I'll need it, I'm having mykitchen floors torn up tomorrow - I keep saying I'llbe happy when it is done!!) I'll probably do MuscleEndurance again.Oh, seeing Kathy 's workouts again made me thinkof her Secrets workouts (Secrets to a GreatUpper/Lower body). I may pull those out for Cycle # 2of my rotation - I can lift heavier with them, and Ithink she only does 12 reps per exercise. I also haveCathe's Muscle Max on my mind for that cycle. MaybeMax Intensity Strength, too, although I find that onedrags for me. Would you guys say MIS is moremoderate/less endurance style? I can't remember b/cit has been a long time since I did it! I also go tothinking about the old McLish workout and I'mwondering if that would be good for Cycle # 2.Take care,Donna__________________________________________________________You rock.
