Guest guest
Wow! Spectacular results! Congratulations on the successful challenge, and on the pull-ups, and on your amazing new back. Guest guest
I wish there was some miracle way we could just target that nasty little area below our bum and around our upper thighs, but from everything I've read and heard, there's no way to target that area. I did eat really strict for the first 8 or 9 weeks, but am still trying to be pretty strict with a small slip here and there. I tried doing a little more cardio to see if it would help, but had similar issues as Dea, and I didn't notice any difference, so cut back to the normal amount. However, things that I think have helped my legs are the following; I squat as much weight as I can handle, and do lunges holding as much weight as possible. I put my body weight on my heels, and really focus on squeezing my cheeks :-) when I do my squats and lunges. I think a lot of people are scared to used a lot of weight for their legs, but go for it!!! For cardio, I usually run a mile or so on an incline, then do either stairs or a crosstrainer, and my 10 is where the incline or resistance is up to where I can barely move the machine. Does anyone else have any tips or suggestions on this topic? I would love some other ideas. Oh, and Lori, you are a gutsy girl!!! My husband would have killed me:-) I guess it's a good thing your's probably doesn't read the body for life womens club!!!
Guest guest
Alayna, would you mind posting your typical diet for a day with your portions if you know them. I'm wondering if I might need to cut back on portion sizes. Thanks for the info on your workouts, it really helps. I think I haven't been pushing myself enough with the cardio lately:). Guest guest
I am probably not the best person to ask what to eat, because I am a terrible planner and I hate to cook. Several times throughout my first challenge, I made a menu for the week and even bought the groceries, yet never followed my menu and had a bunch of rotten food at the end of the week! That being said, here a a few different things I typically eat. Meal one: Muscle Milk light and an apple or banana plus a multivitamin Meal 2: 1/2 c. oatmeal and 1 C. egg beaters w/diced peppers or spinach leaves or 3/4 c. kashi go lean and 3 egg whites w/spinach or 1 slice of toast topped with 1 C. egg beaters, spinach, and a tomato slice. Sometimes I'll put a sprinkle of 2% shredded cheddar on this or protein pancakes w/ a few berries Meal 3: Chicken salad sandwich (one slice of bread only) or Turkey/tomato/spinach/avocado sandwich (one slice of bread) Meal 4: 2 sticks of light string cheese Weight watchers berry yogurt. It's so yummy, has 100 cal. I think 17 carbs, 12 grams sugar, and no artificial sweetener. I love the stuff. or fruit Meal 5: Usually something out of the Eating for life cookbook. I also love my easy fajitas. I had them tonight. I cook and shred some chicken(sometimes I use canned), then saute peppers and onions in just a little canola oil. In a separate bowl, mix 1 can low fat crm of mushroom soup and 1 C salsa. Dump this over the chicken/pepper mixture and fill 1 ww. tortilla. Meal 6: 5 or 6 spoon fulls of cottage cheese (I hate it, but it's easy protein!) A piece of fruit on a good day, but tonight I had ff sugar free chocolate pudding on a reduced fat grahm cracker crust. Definately not the healthiest, but I, too, have quite the sweet tooth! I am weak and cheat more than I should. I hate to think how much more progress I could make if I didn't cheat!!! Here's a couple cheats that aren't absolutely terrible in my opinion. -the smallest fudgecicles I could find. They only have 40 calories -Viactiv chocolate calcium chews (of course don't OD on these!) -Sugar free werthers originals and sugar free jolly ranchers. Only 1 though :-) I try to stick to palm/fist size portions. Anyway, I hope this wasn't too much info, but I love getting ideas from people, so I thought I would be thorough! Keep up the great work Bobbi!!!! Have a good night everyone, Alayna
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing! It really helps me to see what others are eating and portion sizes to make sure I'm doing ok. Guest guest
Be very careful with Muscle Milk. Every one that I know who has taken that stuff has gained weight with it. In my circle of friends, which is full of boneheaded lifters, fitness models and tri-athletes, only one person can take Muscle Milk. The semi-pro tri athlete, and he only uses it after a race. Guest guest
Thanks for the heads up Val. I've wondered about the high calorie/fat content, which Is why I switched to light. It's the only protein shake I've found that doesn't give me gas :-) I had kind of planned on just finishing what I have left, then trying something different in the morning for my pre-workout meal. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks again for the thoughts; that's really interesting about your friends. Alayna
Guest guest
Anyone who's really sick of the typical thick strawberry/chocolate/vanilla protein drinks might enjoy Syntrax Nectar. It comes in a tub of powder but it mixes up like juice instead of a shake. Lately I've been mixing Caribbean Cooler nectar (a pina colada flavor) with strawberry/kiwi flavored Gatorade Rain. It makes a great totally non-milkshake like pro/carb drink, and the Nectar mixes so easily that I can just dump it into the Gatorade bottle and shake it. You don't need a blender or a shaker bottle with a screen to break up the lumps because there aren't any lumps. Here are my original Syntrax Nectar taste test results. Some flavors are better than others, but even the bad ones are still better than most protein shakes out there. - Very Cherry Berry was quite good. It was only vaguely medicinal, still way better than any protein shake I've had before. I think I only dwelt on the very faint aftertaste because so many cough syrups and cold medicines are cherry flavored. Roadside Lemonade was a little weird. It was tart, but not a good tart, kind of a bitter chemical tart. Still, it was better/different than most pukey protein powders. I can see how a lemonade drinker might love this one. Caribbean Cooler flavor, is the best one so far. It tastes like a pina colada, lots of coconut, very little aftertaste. Great mixed with banana or pineapple. And it's white instead of neon. Strawberry/Kiwi was quite good even though the neon red color terrified me. What the hell is in there to make it GLOW like that?! Fuzzy Navel, I believe was the packet of rat poison. Artificial peach flavors never quite work. Fuzzy Navel was very chemically. Apple Ecstasy was pretty good. It won major points just for the fact that it's bright green with frothy white foam on top. It absolutely looks like something Grandpa Munster made in his laboratory. I would buy this and drink it just for the entertainment value. Lemon Tea was pleasantly surprising. I expect anything with artificial lemon in it to taste like furniture polish, but this one tasted more like Diet Snapple. This was my second favorite flavor behind the Caribbean Cooler. Crystal Sky Fruit Punch. When it turned bright blue, I jumped up and down and clapped. Now I'm wishing I'd taken a picture of every one of these flavors because the colors have been spectacular and hilarious. It was very tasty. Might be in a tie for second with Lemon Tea. Natural Peach. It was ok, not great. Artificial peach flavors are usually weird and chemically and this one was no exception. Cappuccino. I hate coffee. I tossed this one because I knew it wouldn't be a flavor I would ever buy. It actually has coffee in it though. If you're a coffee drinker it might be a nice twist on normal protein shakes. Anyway, I went with the Caribbean Cooler flavor and I'm very happy with the decision. I'll be ordering more for sure. Another thing I learned is that when Syntrax says that their product mixes easily with a spoon, they totally mean it. Put it in a glass and stir it a little. I quit using the shaker bottle after the second time I turned the whole shake into foam. If you use it in the blender you have to thoroughly mix all your other ingredients first and then throw the Nectar in and pulse it a few times on low. Don't whir the hell out of it or you'll just make a bubbly mess. On 7/10/07, tnasmitty <no_reply > wrote: > > Thanks for the heads up Val. Guest guest
BTW, I got the sample packet of all those flavors from Vitalady: http://www.vitalady.com/protein_syntrax.htm Click on the Nectar link. I was a tad freaked about the fact that they were just ziploc bags of powder, not sealed manufacturer's packets. (Hence the joke about the rat poison). But in fact she did not poison me and it was a great way to test everything before buying it. > > Anyone who's really sick of the typical thick strawberry/chocolate/vanilla > protein drinks might enjoy Syntrax Nectar. Guest guest
Oh I wish I'd seen this review before I ordered Fuzzy Navel. It hasn't arrived yet, but now I'll probably just send it back without opening it and get Carribbean Cooler. I'm so intrigued by the concept of juice-like protein drinks. > > Anyone who's really sick of the typical thick > strawberry/chocolate/vanilla > protein drinks might enjoy Syntrax Nectar. Guest guest
I've talked to people who really loved the Fuzzy Navel flavor. Everybody's taste is different. I've just had bad experiences with fake peach flavors, so I'm kind of biased against them. :-) > > Oh I wish I'd seen this review before I ordered Fuzzy Navel. Guest guest
I absolutely hated protein drinks and whey proteins and then I found the Body Fortress brand of whey at Target. Both the vanilla and chocolate are very good. I like it because I can mix it with whatever I feel like. I had a problem with gas as well for the first 4 weeks on this diet but I don't have the problem anymore. I think my body was just adjusting the the massive amounts of protein. > > Thanks for the heads up Val. I've wondered about the high calorie/fat > content, which Is why I switched to light. Guest guest
I'm kind of having a crappy day today, of course until I read 's comments about the protein drinks. Too funny. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts. If I get up the nerve, maybe I'll get some samples from vitalady in a baggie :-) I'll also check out the Body Fortress brand. Maybe I just need to give my body a little more time to adjust to different things. Thanks Lori. > > > > Thanks for the heads up Val. Guest guest
I love the Body Fortress powder too. Can't beat $14 for a tub of it at good old Target! Every morning I throw a handful of frozen strawberries, a handful of frozen bananas, 1/2 tablespoon of natural peanut butter, 1 scoop of protein powder and some cold water into the blender and mix it up. I actually really look forward to my morning smoothies whereas I used to choke down the myoplex lite or other pre- mixed drinks. The powder is also good for making the protein cookies which are fabulous! > > > > > > Thanks for the heads up Val.
