Guest guest
Sorry about your week Jen.HUGS..Darcy This week was pretty much a horrible week for me. I was sick with a headache and upset stomach Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. I played awful at volleyball on Wednesday probably because of being sick to my stomach all morning but I really wanted to play so I did. Thursday when I called the sign language interpreting office I work for I found out that my mentor in college (so sign language interpreting) passed away. Her name was May Booth and she really encouraged me and along with her cousin, Darline Booth I felt that I was doing pretty good at interpreting. I over-heard May tell Darline that someday I will be one of the best so that made me feel GREAT and I will never forget that. Now though they are both gone. I went to May's visitation on Sunday afternoon, I also tutored for 2 hours before that and bowled on my league afterwards. Saturday I went to a fellowship/business meeting for MiBCD (Michigan Baptist Convention of the Deaf.) I'm not a member of any Southern Baptist church so I'm not allowed to vote but wanted to see friends that live far away that I don't get to see very often. Anyway, this was hosted by one of the churches. They had some hearing people there that didn't know sign language so they needed someone to tell them (interpret for them) what the Deaf people were signing. Before we ate (potluck) the Deaf Pastor asked if someone was voicing and no one answered so he voiced (he can use his voice, but most profoundly Deaf people can't.) After we ate the business meeting started and no one was interpreting (saying what the Deaf officers of the MiBCD were saying,) I waited but no one voiced so I did. No one not even the interpret from the host church came and relieved me or helped me. I interpreted for an hour and a half without a break! I was so mad, not because of doing it but because the interpreter at that church didn't even try to do it, didn't even help me and never thanked me for interpreting. The Deaf pastor, Del Granger thanked me and told the MiBCD secretary to include a thank you in the meeting minutes. I just think that's wrong because they won't let me be their official interpreter for the MiBCD but yet here I was interpreting for their business meeting, how messed up is that! I think it's very rude and I feel that they took advantage of me because I am a professional sign language interpreter ie I do it for a living. Anyway, that was my bad, messed up, tiring week! Jen p.s. sorry to vent but I feel better now!
