Guest guest
First, let me say that I worked out in the middle of the afternoon!!! That alone is a reason to cheer! I usually come home from work and just want to be a slug on the couch until my kids get home from school but I forced myself to work out because I had to miss my morning time. It really helped that I had the workout picked out and ready to go. I also laid out my workout clothes before I left and as soon as I got home, I changed out of my work clothes and into my workout clothes and put on my HRM. Only then did I allow myself to eat lunch and relax a bit. Ah the games I have to play to ensure I get a workout but if that's what does it then that's what does it! I had rented this Dozois workout from netflix sometime last year and really liked it a lot so I bought it but this was my first time actually using my own copy. I'd done each workout on it only once when I rented it and I forgot how intense they are! I had planned to do 4 of the 5 workouts but, thinking the 4th one, called "Interval Burn" would be high intensity interval training I ended up stopping after 3 and watched the 4th. Turns out "interval" meant cardio alternated with toning. I was still okay stopping at that point because my breathing was really ragged and my heart rate was through the roof. The first 3 are intense cardio workouts. Slow & Steady Burn is supposed to keep your heart rate at a steady rate. Mine was fairly steady and HIGH! Carb Killer was kickboxing moves. I got very lost the first time I did this and, after 3 months of the kickboxing drills in P90, I was better. The combos got me fouled up a few times but they'll be easy to get with more experience doing this one. Power Blast has lots of plyometrics. It was fun but she doesn't show modifications for low impact so if you have problems with high impact this is one to do on a rebounder or not at all. The last one is Metabolism Booster and is a toning workout that uses multiple limbs, it looks really good (I don't remember what it was like doing it). I had to rest a bit longer after each workout than the DVD allows as it goes from one right into the next when you program it for more than one workout but I really wanted my heart rate down a bit before I jacked it back up again. In all of the first 3 she builds combinations and some of them move very quickly (you only have 10 minutes for each segment after all) so I had a hard time following a few times but overall I did well. My heart rate monitor was not working correctly for the first workout (I think the contacts weren't wet enough) so it didn't record that correctly but the other 2 workouts had me burning about 150 calories altogether so I figured the first one was probably around 75 also. I know when I get used to all the moves I'll be burning more because I'll be keeping up with the intensity all the way through instead of backing off as I figure out what I'm doing like I had to do more than a few times today. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have short, intense cardio workouts available to either use separately or put together for a longer and very intense workout. I'm not into the carbs and calories and when carbs are burned and what that means and all that stuff at all. I just wanted an intense cardio workout for those times when I don't have much time to put into it but do want to really put myself into a workout and this fits just great!
