Guest guest
Thanks for the input Darcy, but I didn't feel nauseous at all. My legs just felt really fatigued and I was really winded. I felt pretty good until about mid way through the workout. I had All Bran with skim milk along with some blueberries and bananas for breakfast. I think I got in like 60+ carbs this morning. I worked out about an hour and a half later. I wish there was something I could do to be able to get through early morning cardio workouts. I guess my body just isn't ready for it at that time even though my head is lol ~~Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food. Guest guest
Good job !!!I think if you find yourself continuously fighting through these hard ones, I would back-off a bit. You know what feels right, and what doesn't. It sounds like your body wasn't overly pleased about the workout today. Are you eating enough carbs at breakfast-time??? That sick-feeling that sometimes comes when working out is due to blood flow Your blood goes to where it is needed most and is redirected away from areas where is is not essential (kidneys, liver, stomach, and intestines). I thought that was interesting to learn anyway, that may be why you were feeling sick, that's what causes the nausea during workouts. (if you weren't already aware).Darcy Hi, This morning was Imax 3 (skipping every other step segment) I burned 512 calories, but was only in my zone 17 minutes () I got up really early (5 am) and started my workout around 6:20. I'm not sure what the deal is with me and the early morning cardio but I noticed when I turned my HRM on my heart rate was higher than it usually is when I start. I got about mid way through the workout and I lost my fuel. My legs felt really weak and my breath was just out of control, not to count my face looked like a tomato and felt like fire. I pushed through it and made it, but it was really tough for me. I hate that. Anyone else have this problem? I ate a good breakfast and waited as long as I could before starting, but still it didn't seem to help me. I'm cleaned up, dressed and ready to go and that's a great feeling. I have to ask myself if fighting through these cardio workouts is worth it. I have some things to do this morning and wanted to get my workout done. I got it done alright. Have a great day!! ~~ Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch " Cooking with Tyler Florence " on AOL Food.
Guest guest
Hi , I was going to add - maybe try to gradually get your body used to doing morning cardio routines - in other words, pick something easier than IMAX3! LOL! Seriously, you may just need to scale back in intensity while your body adjusts to working out at a different time. Personally, my energy level and strength is better later in the day - but I know I would never workout if I had to do it in the evenings - so I figure that some workout is better than none, and, gradually, my body has gotten used to working out early in the morning and I can pretty much do anything I can in the evening - but it definately feels better in the evening (but, it would also NEVER get done consistently if I saved it for the evening!) I do like the feeling of having my workout and shower done for the day before I leave the house. Guest guest
For what it's worth, , I'm exactly the same way. I have to wake up before I can do a workout. Today I walked on the tmill for 25 minutes, then did a segment of Namaste yoga. My library just got a bunch of Namaste dvds, and it's nice to have some new yoga workouts to try. I did a mostly standing practice today, and really enjoyed it. The girls moved a tad fast at times, but nothing I couldn't catch up with. Yesterday I tried Prevention's Shortcut to Big Weight loss, also from the library, and I wasn't overly impressed. I thought the cardio sculpting moved WAY too quickly. The rest (Pilates and kickboxing) was okay. Just not my style. -----Original Message-----From: exercisevideos [mailto:exercisevideos ]On Behalf Of fitgrl222@... I'm thinking about trying something along those lines, but find a low calorie and drink it in the evening instead of my usual diet rootbeer. Guest guest
I can totally understand where you are coming from there . That's great that you totally conquered the habit.Darcy Most nights are okay but I want them all to be good!! Yeah, I just can't bring myself to eat after dinner. I did it for so long and it was the hardest habit to break. Once I did it, I was so proud of myself and no more weight gain. So now I either have some energy for cardio and fall back to that old habit, which for me would end up taking me back to the bad foods because I don't think I could eat just a little healthy snack. I'd be afraid I'd fall back to my old ways and I don't want that. So, I either find some kind of low cal drink or I suffer through those rough cardio workouts. Guest guest
Hmmm.. .would "Boost" or "Ensure" drinks do anything for you I wonder? Or even Carnation Instant Breakfast drink mixes? I just bought some Boost I think (or was it Ensure) for DH to help him gain weight (one of the suggestions from the registered dietician we saw this morning, one of the few truly useful suggestions because apparently we're already doing everything right for him as far as she could see; just knowing that does help and we did get a few other ideas too so it was a good thing to do). I saw different formulas for different needs. I bought him one to gain or maintain weight but there was one with extra protein for muscle building and others too. I have no idea how they taste though. Re: Tuesday workout I can totally understand where you are coming from there . I don't know how good it is though and not sure good that would be on the waste line going to bed on. My DD use to get them and I thought they were pretty good. Guest guest
Nope, Slim Fast wasn't me. I don't know anything about that. I think a lot of people use them as meal replacements to lose weight and I'm not into that (I get much more pleasure from eating my calories instead of drinking them and would end up finding something to chew anyway!). Guest guest
Hi , I think that sounds like a good idea - or maybe you can make your own smoothie with low fat/no fat milk or yogurt and frozen fruit or something. Eating dinner that early is probably want makes you so depleted in the morning, but I guess w/ your DH's schedule you have to eat earlier so he can go in to work. Take care! Donna p.s. I can totally understand the "trigger" of eating one snack at night - you'd probably end up wanting more. If drinking something doesn't trigger it for you that sounds like a good way to go! Guest guest
Darcy, You are correct. It takes 8 to 12 hours for the body to process food into usable nutrients. Simple sugars like soda and energy drinks can be used pretty quickly (1-2 hours), but that's about it. I'd recommend a meal of complex carbs and protein 8 to 12 hours before your workout, so like right before bed, to see if it helps. Tonya Re: Tuesday workout Hmm... Have you tried eating a carbohydrate-rich meal before bed? That should give you some energy in the morning.. I BELIEVE your breakfast that you are eating will affect how you feel in the afternoon, the night before's meal may affect how you feel in the morning.. . Guest guest
Just FYI, that whole eating after 6 thing is a myth. Your body needs fuel throughout the day, especially while you are sleeping to rebuild the muscle you are tearing down with weight training. I recommend eating every 2-3 hours you are awake. If you stop eating after dinner but are up for 4-6 more hours, you need another meal so your body has the fuel to sustain itself. Guest guest
, You have to watch some of those drinks as they contain a lot of sugar. Definitely look at the labels before you buy. Also, you might consider a smoothie. I use vanilla protein powder, a couple of fruits (frozen works great), and a cup of 100% juice and blend it. Tastes good, healthy carbs with some vitamins, plus protein to help it stick around through the night for that energy boost in the morning. Guest guest
I've used several over the years. I like EAS products the best. Sometimes you can get them at Wal-Mart, but they're going away from them quite a bit and putting out another brand that I don't like as much. You can get them at GNC or other places like that. Guest guest
I eat dinner, and I am starving sometimes. I end up going to bed hungry. Bob Greene talks in his book about that you should always go to bed a little bit hungry. He says that's your bodies way of saying "we're hungry so we're going to go in and get some fat cells to eat" and that's a GOOD thing. I struggled for many years with resisting to eat in the evenings (which is what put weight on me) and I've been successful for many years now. So I won't go back down that road, but I will take Tonya's advice on the protein/juice drink. Sounds good. ~~Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food. Guest guest
I am lucky that this have never been a real issue with me. I rarely each that much at dinner and the only time I have dessert is if we go out to dinner or a holiday meal. I really like a big breakfast and a medium sized lunch and a small dinner. When I eat big at night, I always feel sluggish the next day. Maybe having something near bedtime makes your body work harder at night to digest it and makes you tired the next day? --Kathy Calvin: I'm a genius, but I'm a misunderstood genius. Guest guest
Unfortunately the only way to convert fat to fuel is through aerobic exercise. You may burn calories while you sleep because of various body processes that are still functioning (digestion, respiration, muscle repair, etc.), but they are glycogen calories, not fat. You have to understand that a lot of times when people like Bob write these books, they are writing to the general population who aren't exercising and eating clean. They are writing them for people who don't have a beginner knowledge of how the body works. Going to bed a little hungry will stop them from having 4000 calories that day instead of 3000, so it will help them lose weight, not necessarily fat. While those books are great for people who aren't really into fitness for getting them started. Once you have more knowledge, it is better to make sure you are getting the right amount of calories for your body and training program and not worry about when you eat it. Guest guest
Hi, This morning was supposed to be cardio, but I've decided to switch it up and do legs on Tuesday's this month instead of the scheduled cardio. I usually have to get up quite early (5 am) and get my workout in on Tuesday's so I'm choosing to not struggle with cardio and do legs instead. So this morning I did B & G leg blast... We also had calves down for today. I decided to include them right into this workout. There are a couple exercises that I don't care for and don't really feel that great of a burn so I did calve raises for both these exercises. Here's how it went: Walking lunges (I used this as my warm up with no weight)Lunge/squat comboWalking lunges- 5'sLeg presses- 10'sForward thrusting hammer punch lunges (did calves instead)Leg presses- 10'sOne legged squats- 8'sSide to side thrusting hammer punch lunges (did calves instead)One legged squats- 8'sFirewalkersWalking lunges- 5'sFirewalkersWalking lunges- 5'sLunge squat comboLow pulse lunges- 8'sLunge squat combo This workout really got me good. She doesn't take ANY breaks or stretches in between any of the exercises. Since it's a premix it just goes right to the next segment. I didn't take any stretches so my legs continued to burn through out the entire workout lol I was not liking those one leg squats. I was so glad she didn't do those a million times through. If she had, I think I would've had to do another set of calve raises lol What I love about this workout is that I don't have to mess with a bar bell or heavy weights. I can use my 5's and 8's and still get an awesome leg workout. Even though she does a lot of repeating I think this is one of my favorite leg routines. Got thunderstorms this morning so no walking Abby. Have a great day ~~Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
