Guest guest
Hi , yes, it is a scary time right now, that's for sure. I'm glad that we have always been good about paying our debts. we've always paid extra on our mortgage to get it down, kept our cars as long as possible to avoid car payments, etc - the only thing that s*cks is being responsible sometimes screws you over on taxes b/c this year b/c our mortgage interest was so much lower we ended up owing about $900 to the federal gov't! Can't win! We have also always " under bought " our homes, basically buying less than we could afford - I never wanted to live pay check to pay check and panic over every dollar I spend, so we bought a smaller more modest house - which gets me on my soap box about the gov't (us taxpayers!) bailing out people who did the exact opposite (bought way more than they could afford through shady mortgage deals). I have sympathy with people who are going to lose their homes through no fault of their own - illness, job losses, etc., and have no problem with helping those people out, but I really have no sympathy for people who knowingly got in over their heads and are now looking for " mom and dad " (us taxpayers!) to bail them out. Where is personal responsibility??? I can't put all the blame on the banks, people need to be grown ups and responsible and take personal responsibility for their finances! GRRR! Okay, sorry that was way OT, just had to get it off my chest. Of course the flip side to our buying an older and smaller more modest house is that we're now putting work into it and that is, unfortunately, coming from our savings (which makes me pretty nervous with the economy being what it is) But, it is needed work and I guess it is better than taking out loans and paying interest on top of it all! Take care, sorry to ramble and I'm really happy for you and DH, that has to be a load off your minds!
