Guest guest
Hi, Today I tried a virgin workout - Moreno's Core Train Kickboxing. I think Carolyn reviewed it not too long ago, but I'll add my comments: If you are looking for a high impact choreogpraphed kickboxing routine this isn't it! But, this is a very good "drill" style workout that really emphasizes form, body alignment, control, etc. The DVD is divided into four chapters - punches, core energizer, kicks, and combos. Done all together it is around 70-80 minutes long. After each section it takes you back to the menu (there is no "play all" option), but it isn't a bad thing that it works this way - just different. The moves are all basic kickboxing drills - but really emphasizes the form and making sure that the moves come from your core. She throws in the "jenga" (sp?) move from capoierera in the kicks section, which I enjoyed seeing very much. The workout is filmed outdoors - appears to be in southwest (mountains/desert - lots if nice red rock scenery). I found it to be surprisingly intense considering that you don't use any high impact intensifiers and you really don't move around a lot (definately not a space hog workout! I would say it is not as intense aerobically as an Amy Bento or Cathe Friederich or a Tae Bo kickboxing workout, but it will get you sweating (and focusing on your form, core, and hearing positive thoughts and affirmations from ). I can also see some potential DOMS from this workout due the repetitions and control used for the moves. It may also be one that in the long run improves performance on other kickboxing workouts since it instills good body alignment/practices. Because of the chaptering it is versatile for add-ons and/or time crunched days. continues to be warm and friendly, good at cueing and giving positive motivation. I didn't start out planning to do the whole workout, but I did - then I added on the 10 Minute "bonus" routine at the end which is a series of planks/side planks and variations (3 point plank, 2 point plank, etc.) interspersed with some light yoga/stretching. does have a way of encouraging you to try things you didn't think you could accomplish! Overall - this one would be good for a day when you want a lower impact but still moderately intense kickboxing routine (and/or if you need to hear some good form points and positive mental affirmations!)Hope everyone has a good day. I may just have to give 's dance workout a try tomorrow since this is my "play" week! take care, Donna
