Guest guest
Hi Sara! Welcome!! Please don't worry about being long-winded, if you've noticed my posts then you'll see I certainly tend to be too. I figure if someone doesn't have the patience for me on a certain day they can just hit delete or read it another time! ;-) I'm from Michigan, near Brighton and Ann Arbor but I grew up in the metro Detroit suburbs (West Bloomfield). Jen, our resident volleyball expert, is also from Michigan. Where did you used to live? I think there's someone from Wisconsin on here but can't remember who. I will look forward to reading about your workouts!! Welcome again! New member hello! Hi All, I've been lurking and reading the daily digests for a few weeks to get a feel for the group. And now I'm overdue at jumping in!This looks like SUCH a great group! Even if there IS a lot of enabling - LOL! Right up my alley. I'll try to keep my intro short, but I tend to be long winded - sorry!Well, I've been overweight most of my life and have successfully lost weight anytime I've put in the effort to do so (duh). Unfortunately, I tend to go all out, then burn out, then slack off, then stop. Sometimes I'll stick to it for a few years, sometimes a few months. And of course, then I gain weight when I'm not working out regularly, as my eating gets worse when I'm inactive! So now I'm past due at getting my butt moving again, but have re-discovered fitness videos to get me going again. I've purchased quite a few in the last two months or so, really expanding my collection. I'm really looking forward to sharing my thought on them with the group! I also have quite a few older ones that I have not done before *blushing* - but it seems I'm not alone there.I was also pleased to see there are so many dog people here! Made me even more sure I was in the right place! And there is even someone with a shar pei mix! Donna - right? I have two shar pei mixes and one shar pei, all from different rescues. I'm very involved with the dog rescue I volunteer for, but I'll try to keep the dog talk to a minimum! lolAnyway, I have a pretty well stocked home gym in the basement, and I like gadgets. My favorite tool is probably my swiss (stability) ball, because you can use it for so much! I really enjoy weight training, but cardio is not my favorite. Though, I also *really* need to improve my cardio fitness right now, so I'll likely be doing more cardio than I prefer. My first experience with workout videos several years ago was the Core Secret series with Gunnar . I still enjoy those, and have done a few of them recently. I was bummed to see that the website is now inactive. Before that, I did weights and cardio on my own, and I still like to change things up and do that as well. :)Okay, this is already getting long, so I'll end here. I'll talk more about me when I post about my workouts and things. And I'll do my best to post a few times a week, give reviews and summaries whenever I can!! It will help me stay on track, I'm sure!Oh, and I'm married with 3 dogs, originally from Michigan, and have lived in central Wisconsin for 11 years. Where is everyone else from?Glad to be here!Sara
Guest guest
I'm very involved with the dog rescue I volunteer for, but I'll try to keep the dog talk to a minimum! lol Welcome to the group Sara. I use to volunteer at a dog rescue, but moved and had to quit doing it. Recently I've been thinking about it again. I have 3 dogs myself (2 beagles and a Chihuahua) I love dogs and cats. I've been wanting to get involved in helping with rescuing neglected and abused dogs and cats or getting involved with fund raising etc. Just not sure where to begin. Anyway, this IS a fitness list so welcome to the group. A lot of us post our daily workouts and that is a good way to keep yourself motivated. I've been working out since 1989 so it's been a while for me. Finding these exercise lists have just been a wonderful thing and I hope we have them AND the people here for a very long time. Hope to hear more from you. ~*~~*~Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars.

Guest guest
Thank you so much everyone, for the warm welcome!! Darcy - Oops, I guess when I said central WI my perspective was a little off! I live about an hour north of Madison - well south of WI Rapids, sorry! lol Donna - I answered the dog talk off list. And I'll fess up about some of my recent purchases at the end of this. - glad to know a fellow rescuer! I may volunteer with my local Humane Society in addition to the breed rescue I'm with. They are relocating and will be within walking distance, so it seems like fate, heh. That's always a good place to look. They usually have web sites with lots of info, including what they need help with. That might be something to check in your area. Good luck! I agree - these lists can be so helpful and motivating! Wow - 1989! That's great! I've struggled with my weight since like, 2nd grade so I certainly wasn't into fitness back then. - Great! I enjoy reading your long posts, so hopefully mine will be helpful, too! I grew up in Saginaw, but also briefly lived in Troy before I moved to WI. And I have friends/family in Lansing, Brighton, Hartland, Saginaw, etc. Nice to meet you! As for my new dvds, yikes! There are so many! Some oddball ones that were cheap, some I really wanted, some I was curious about. Some of my recent purchases: 10 minute solution series: Fitness Ball Workouts Pilates on the Ball (odd for me, I'm not usually one for pilates, but I love the ball, lol) Tone Trouble Zones Workout – One on One with Jackie (Warner) 30 Day Shred (Jillian) A bunch of Sansone ones I also have all of the Body & Soul dvds and a few others from the dollar store (for my oddball category, heh), all the Core Secrets dvds, the first batch of Turbo Jam dvds, Amy Bento's All Pump Extreme, and all 5 Jari Love dvds, too. And several more… I'm a big fan of Cathe's weight training and used to have all her FitTv workouts on DVR. But, I found the commercial breaks (even fast forwarded) really interrupted me, and my DVR in the basement is flakey and I have to reset it and erase everything periodically now. But, I have an amazon gift card on the way and I'm leaning toward a cathe purchase with that. I'm also way uncoordinated, so fancy step workouts and advanced choreography aren't for me right now. That's why I like - I can actually follow along, LOL! But, I do have Cathe's basic step (came free with the step) so I'll have to give that a go one of these days. Sorry for another long one. I'll get back to catching up on posts, and also get my plan for the week up! Sara
Guest guest
So cool, we are somewhat close then! We are two hours north of Madison. Are you near Spring Green?? Anyway, I am terrible at any kind of geography, originally I was going to say I was in southeastern wisconsin..LOL.. Sounds like you have an awesome collection of workouts. You're fitting right in already!Darcy Thank you so much everyone, for the warm welcome!! Darcy - Oops, I guess when I said central WI my perspective was a little off! Guest guest
i have a few of those body and soul ones from the dollar store too. mostly the cardio now,the toning stuff i traded off just wasn't for me. i have quite a collection myself that i can't even keep updated on my list. i might have to just write them all down and start again LOL. ldy_solana's domainScouting for All Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don¢t want to impress people they don¢t like.-Will
Guest guest
Hi Kassia, Yes, I agree - I've previewed most of my dollar store finds and I'll have to see how many I end up keeping. I haven't done any of them yet, but many of them look entertaining, if nothing else. I figure if I at least do each of them once, they were worth my dollar. I've also got a couple hula ones from the dollar store, and also another one that gets the funniest title award from me - Pilates for Wimps, lol. Not sure that I'm a hula kind of girl, or if I could keep up enough to get a good workout from those or not. But, I'm willing to try them at least once. The Pilates for Wimps is worth a dollar to me, just for the fun title! Guest guest
Sara, Hey, it's great to have you here. I'm also in Wisconsin, up in the Fox Valley area. My wife and I work out at home with DVD's just like the others here, only I have the distinction of being about the only active man in this group. (Hence, gave me the title of " token male. " ) It's nice to have another cheesehead here. Welcome! > > > Hi All, > > > > I've been lurking and reading the daily digests for a few weeks to > > get a feel for the group. Guest guest
if you have a ross or tj maxx nearby they usually also have tons of pilates, yoga, cardio, and toning dvds on the cheap as well. thats how my collection got so big really b/c i usually get stuff you can only buy online(cathe,CIA,amy, etc). but when a yoga dvd for a method kickboxing dvd shows up for under $5 its hard to resist. with economy the way it is for us right now i have been avoiding those store but once i get back to work(i only work during the school year) i am sure i will be picking up more here and there. also a goodwill junkie. vhs/dvd it doesn't matter as long as the workout looks like it will be for me. i re-aquired more firm videos that way LOL ldy_solana's domainScouting for All Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don¢t want to impress people they don¢t like.-Will

Guest guest
Kassia – Thanks for the tip on TJ Maxx! There aren't any Ross stores in my area, but there are some TJ Maxx's around. I'll keep that in mind. I'm always looking for bargains. I picked up a few strange ones from rummage sales recently, so it seems I'll try just about any workout if it's cheap enough, lol Hi Carolyn – oh, yes I saw your beautiful Chinook on the home page! I've always thought malamutes and huskies were so pretty. My husband went to school in the U.P. of Michigan and we used to walk dogs at the shelter every weekend. There were always lots of mals and huskies there. Sounds like he's a great workout buddy. Our dogs love the snow, and we joke that one of them IS a husky (she's a mix, but not even close) since she digs holes in the snow to lay in. I'm looking forward to talking about workouts, too!
