Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I went with a virgin this morning - Amy Bento's In the Ring workout. This one had some criticism both on the Video Fitness website and Collage's website about it being difficult to follow and poorly cued. I have to admit the reviews sort of intimidated me from wanting to try it right away - but I'm glad I did. Yes, there are times when the cueing is pretty much " on the spot " and there is little to no advance notice of what is coming next, but it isn't terrible and, as long as you are not bent on completing this workout perfectly on the first run through it is fine - you may have to rewind something to catch it but overall I didn't find it impossible to do and did work up a decent sweat (so it wasn't one of those 'wasted " workouts where you spend more time staring at the TV than actually doing anything!). The choreography is also mostly on the athletic side and there is enough repetition so that even if you do miss something it is repeated enough so that you can catch it eventually. This is one that your performance on will improve with time as you grow familiar with it. That said, I only did a pre-mix. I think the one I did was called " Good NRG " or something like that - it was combo 1, interval 1, combo 3, interval 3, combo 4, interval 4. I chose this b/c when I was previewing it - combo 2 does look difficult/complex. I figured I'd learn that on separately rather than as a part of learning the whole thing together. The intervals are all done with a medicine ball (or dumbell as one modifier shows). Amy's speed here and fast cueing caused me to not use a med ball for most of the intervals the first time out. I can see using it eventually, but not when I was first learning the workout - too fast may be a recipe for injury. The premix I did was 52 minutes. There are other pre-mixes of varying lengths on this DVD. Afterwards, my hips and lower back were tight -probably not from this workout alone but a cumulative effect from this week so far and just general activities so I wanted to do some yoga - I pulled out an oldie - Body Wisdom's Yoga for Athletes - I picked out a 20 minute practice for the hips fron the " Runners " section. It was great, very good hip openers - different squats to opeh the hips, forward bends, reclined twists. As is typical of most of the Body Wisdom workouts I have seen the cueing is voice over with a model (, who is in the Power Yoga for Every Body DVD). There isn't a lot of " flow " between the postures but that was okay for me today. The relaxation was good, although by that time I was getting antsy about time (I really like to do yoga in the evenings, when I'm not antsy about getting my day started - but if I leave it for the evening it never gets done!) so I didn't relax as long as I should have - although half way through my dog came down and she laid down next to me and I petted her and that was relaxing on its own. I'm not sure what is up for tomorrow, I think it will depend on how I feel in the morning - my choicees are strength, yoga or a circuit workout. Take care everyone!
